Hi Chief,

A van can usually only be covered under a commercial policy if you are employed within a trade or operate your own business and thus use it for business purposes - this also often applies to pick-up's.

You can obtain cover for a Van (or pick-up) upon a personal use policy without a problem, but this is a limited market and some underwriters will only entertain upon referral with a reason being requested as to why a commercial vehicle was purchased for personal use (ie. fishing, dog transport, home renovation).

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Tony

Cheers for the reply Tony much appreciated.

would i be better off just making a company up i.e. Acme s**t shifters:)
rather than trying to fart about having it under a personal policy.

It shouldn't be a problem covering your van on a personal policy and i'm sure that you won't have to go to such extremes.

With regard to making up details, I wouldnt recommend it even with innocent motives as most Underwriters rate wholly upon the information supplied and will take a very dim view of ficticious details - it may even invalidate your policy.

We dont generally offer cover for vans, but if you're absolutely stuck i'll see what we can do to help.

Kind regards

Tony
