Thumbs up RAC Trackstar comes up trumps

I have had RAC Trackstar from new (2002).

I asked for a test track and they couldn't locate my vehicle. Went for a drive, still no joy.

RAC:There appears to be a fault.
Me:Come and fix it, I have paid a lifetime subscription.
The unit only has a 1 year guarantee and your subscription pays for the service.
How much will it cost to fix?
We don't have any parts for that early system so you need an upgrade.
OK
I'll put you through to sales. Alarm bells ringing.
You want to upgrade your Trackstar, that'll be £189 please. But we would transfer the subscription.

Put me back to customer services please.
Do you not check that the unit is functioning?

Yes, every 6 months it sends a signal back so we know it is still working.
When was the last signal?
November 2004.
So generously allowing 6 months from its last report, I could have been without the service for 18 months?
Yes.
At £120 / year thats £180, similar to what you want to charge me for a replacement unit. I'm sure you can make me an offer.

The next day I phoned up to be told that I would be getting a new unit fitted FOC.

That has now been fitted. Well done Trackstar. ::
