Thanks to Daz34 for posting this link.

What do people think?

I'm looking to get our first DSLR and if this has a big screen at the back and a few more MP (actually useful for 1 shot per 1000  ), then I could wait a month or three for this rather than going for the D70s.

But one of the comments in the Engadget thread concerned me, about SD only no CF, as CF was "better" (and I think could give a lot more memory).

Any views?

Thanks

Brendan

I think it's a bit early to tell just by looking at some photos when what we need is the good stuff -- the technical specifications. Granted if it's 10MP that's pretty neat and the big screen does look nice. Dunno why the chap is making such a fuss over SD cards and no CF when you can get SD cards of 1,2 and 4GB capacity and the transfer rate is pretty quick too. I'd want a battery grip with the D80 to improve the handling for my big mitts.

I'd wait until Nikon release it onto the market in 14 days and then start weighing up the options...like picking up a good s/h D70s when the gadget freaks start buying the D80 :)

Brendan, do you already have Nikon lenses? If not, also consider the new Sony Alpha. I believe it has the same sensor as the Nikon and has received excellent reviews. It's available now for about £600 which I bet is going to be a lot cheaper than the Nikon. It also has image stabilising built in, which is also used to keep the sensor dust free, a real bugbear of DSLRs.

A whole new range of lenses have been announced and it's also compatible with old Minolta lenses. Best of all, Carl Zeiss will be making lenses for it as well.

If you don't fancy the Sony, I'm sure the Nikon will be great :)

If that photo is true, then thy still haven't fixed my biggest bug bear with the D70s. Ie no external switch to go from single to continious focus.

Daryl, I do have a Nikon lens, otherwise I may well have gone for the 350D already :) (awaits Alwyn's sharp intake of breath!;))
