View Full Version : Finally done it
CrisPDuk 24 July 2006, 17:56 Did my CBT yesterday, I wish I'd done it years ago:thumb:
Getting used to the controls took some doing, after so many years hooning around in cars, and the poor little CG125 I was on did struggle to get my less than tiny carcass started on some of the hills in Buxton at times:eek: But once we were out of the town and into the surrounding hills the feeling of freedom was fantastic, I was surprised how well the ickle Honda went once you some momentum up:D
You do tend to notice much more how bad the roads are when your on a bike though:( And the driving standards of some of the inhabitants of Buxton leave a considerable amount to be desired:mad:
Just booked my theory on-line tonight, get that out of the way and I'm straight into the Direct Access:D:thumb:

WRX1996 09 August 2006, 17:18 Well Done Crisp and good luck on your DAS.
I am in the same boat as you, ive finally grown some balls and decided to get my bike license. Done the theory and CBT Just need to get the DAS out of the way now. Im hoping to pass that before summer finishes! If anyone can recommend a centre in North Kent (sevenoaks area) id be much obliged.
Ive left it a bit late (im 27!) but fingers crossed ill get used to being on two wheels and pass first time. Heard mixed stories about the DAS to be honest but my work collegue had never sat on a bike, went and did his CBT on the Saturday and then his Das the following week - he passed without any minor faults!!! There is hope for me yet.
My mates selling his CBR600f so I will probably take that off his hands for my first bike but think im going to wait until I pass before I make a puchase.
I havent got a clue about what gear\lid etc to buy so im stocking up on cheesy bike mags. Let us know how you get on and the best of luck
MortuumMorgue 11 August 2006, 13:26 Congratz mate!
Honestly, the DAS isnt as scarey as it sounds. It's nerve wracking at the start as the instructor is hammering instructions into your ear, but by the 2nd day you're doing things automatically, etc. The day of the test is of course, stressful, but honestly - the bike test was soooo much easier than when I had to recently do the manual car test here (had a canadian license converted but UK didnt grant me a manual transmission - had to do the test and BOY is it completely unrealistic!). The bike test and instruction is much more "real worldy" that the car instruction and test.
Dunno where ppl are located but I can recommend the guys from 'Honda' Doble Motorcycles in Purley/Coulsdon. High pass rate and the instructors are all really good, down to earth guys. Passed first go.
Good Luck!
Longjing 11 August 2006, 14:11 My DAS experience was awful... for those in London, I strongly recommend you avoid Metropolis (any of them). I had their chief instructor doing my DAS... his idea of training seemed to be swearing and bullying. My (6'6") training partner walked out rather than get into a fight with him! I lasted longer, but if I saw him now I'd seriously think about mowing the w@nker down. I'm no wallflower, but there's only so many times I can be called a c*nt or a bitch before I take offence. A couple of days' worth, it turns out.
The least pleasant experience I've ever had to pay for. And I've paid for a root canal filling.
Sorry for the rant. The thought that someone else might accidentally waste money on Metropolis always gets me going.
MortuumMorgue 11 August 2006, 17:51 ^^^ Sorry to hear that. Well, at least it's good to know where *not* to go to learn.
Couldnt imagine having something that -- instructor giving you serious grief and abuse while you're trying to learn how to use a bike while also "learing" how to pass the test for the DVLA. Definitely not cool.. :(

Yes I've got a scoob, a 94 Legacy Turbo in Duckhams green:)
I live at the civilised end of the C & F though, I went to Swains in Buxton on the strength of several recommendations, both on here and from friends, and can't fault them in any way:thumb: I will be going back there for my DSA:)
