Been messing around in the garden today and 'trying' to scrub up on my macro skills..:wonder:
Have to say I'm rather pleased with this one.....

Is there such a thing as a dedicated macro lens ?? I'm struggling with my current Tamron...

Yes there definitely is a dedicated macro lens -- you'll usually find them at lengths of 55/60mm, 100/105mm and 200mm.
Nice shot btw!

I find dishwasher salt works rather well ;)
Dishwasher salt indeed! You've just got to get to love bugs and creepy crawlies. A proper macro lens is no doubt the way to go for proper macro photography. I've been using my recently acquired Nikon 300mm f4 which is pretty good. If you are on Canon, I'm sure the Canon 300mm f4 is at least as good and also has the image stabilizer.

Also useful are the screw on close-up lenses (like a filter). I use a 4x one screwed on to a 35mm f2 lens, but a 50mm lens if you have one knocking around should work well. As below.
