View Full Version : tree sap??
I keep finding small hard brown colured dots and spots all over my car. I washed it yesterday but woke up and found those hard spots had returned
I have to use my finger nail to pick them off
Is that hardened tree sap??? or is it from insects??;)
Shark Man 23 July 2006, 11:38 Fall out, pollen, tree sap or could be worse: a local foundry or plastics factory spitting out all likes of gunk into the air to stick on your lovely smooth paint.
Try Bug and tar remover (or Glue and tar remover). Polish and wax afterwards.
If it's chemical fallout you'll need somthing more aggressive.
definately no factory around here
i find insects keep crawling all over the car
I just got a car cover and threw that on top, it doesnt cover the scooby entirley though
it's rear is slightly :o exposed....!
Harty2000 23 July 2006, 13:03 As GC8 said, use a clay bar. I used one for the first time on thursday and was amazed with the results and very easy to use
Gazz300 23 July 2006, 13:39 Megs Clay bar. Halfrauds £10 or get onto Polished Bliss in the Car Care section. Best £100 I ever spent and others will testify. Look at Silver Scooby Sports Car after claying in Members Gallery.
Coat it with Blackfire Finishing and job done.
can u confirm - is the stuff i am talking about tree sap?

I can get a clay bar and ill do what ur saying but what is that stuff
it is hard, small, dark brown
im guessing its tree sap??
WRX300MAN 23 July 2006, 14:15 Clay bar????:wonder:
Fair enough lads . .But if its tree sap, which it's quite likely to be, the guy will spend up to 5 hours clay barring it, and the next day it will be back!:lol1: . .
Mate hard to tell without looking, but by the sounds of it - its more likely tree sap than not . . .I.e - do you park it near to or under a tree??
Anyhow . . Clay bar it for old and deterriorated paint work . . . . .My sincere advise, just give it a wash/wax et'c and cover it up . . :norty: . .Nothing to it!
Hope this helps!:thumb:
i park about 1.5 metres from a massive tree, trust me its massive, so its branches go quite spread out
I think there must be some wind carry from that then
hmmmmm i think the scooby is brigh blue which is why it is easier to notice these things. My cossies was the dark pacifica blue and you couldnt ever see any dirt on that
WRX300MAN 23 July 2006, 14:36 i park about 1.5 metres from a massive tree, trust me its massive, so its branches go quite spread out
So there's yr answer mate!
Don't sweat over it!:)
That's just life . . .If its not sap, then its going to be bird sh*t . .If its not bird sh*t, then it will be some Burk scuffing your bumper in a parallel parking . . .:brickwall
We just cant escape these unfortunate eventualities!
Shark Man 23 July 2006, 15:47 Best to wash the car before the sap dries. Althoug in teh baking sun, it'll have hardened before you have chance.
cheers
im just watching a top gear re run on Sky
WRX300MAN 23 July 2006, 17:17 Any good??:wonder:
watching top gear on bbc2 right now
lucky we got that car cover on lads -- its covered with tree sap already
good we spotted that before it got any worse
Rock on :notworthy
graeme. 23 July 2006, 21:45 It sounds very much like - FLY SH1T !!
Little b'stards do it to my car every night in the garage around this time every year. Groups of little black dots a couple of mm in diameter.
Bug Eyed Peas 23 July 2006, 22:02 This may help. If you find bird or fly sh1t on your car, soak some kitchen towel in lukewarm water and apply over the cr@p, leave for a few minutes then wipe off.

Isn't that from the RAC advert . .
Boost II 24 July 2006, 12:47 Yep - deffo sounds like fly ****e, I've seen it on my house windows when they've been trapped in. Tree sap is more or less colourless.
thanks boost ii and everyone
i think it is the flies then as well
little sods
StickyMicky 24 July 2006, 16:46 i must say, in my 10 years experance, fly **** is a new one on me
Shark Man 25 July 2006, 00:05 I had a bee crap on my car once, flew over as I was polshing and dumped a load of yellow stuff across the bonnet.
Couldn't be sure if was actually crap, pollen, barf, sweat, or some other glandular secretion, as I did not sample it for lab exmination. ;)
jasonius 29 July 2006, 08:35 IIRC it's not actually tree sap that covers your car (when parked under a tree) it's aphids, on the leaves, dumping onto your paintwork..! Or so they recon on Gardeners World anyhow..!
Polished Bliss 31 July 2006, 20:07 Correct, tree sap is virtually clear and hard to spot (pardon the pun), darker deposits are turds of one sort or another. My advice - clay the car, then add protection, and park a bit further away. Most turds (big or small) contain a number of compounds and acids that may etch your clear coat if left in place for any significant amount of time. :)
