Unhappy Getting excited about cars

I need to buy a replacement car for our A3 1.8T Sport. The budget is the Audi (worth £7k) plus £5k tops and I want something less than 2 or 3 years old. I need a diesel car for work use and we need 5 doors as sprog #2 will be here in November.

The problem is that any cars that fit the above criteria are just so boring that I can't get motivated to go looking. I mean, how does one decide between a Vectra or a Mondeo? Even the Audis or BMWs that fit the bill are the low rent versions that are ten a penny around here!

Anyone any ideas?

I considered an Accord Type R and use the saving in purchase price against the extra fuel and things breaking but my wife said no.

**** me Ootheca - that is a living person you are talking about. You have to make sacrifices as a parent, but i never wished i didn't have kids becuase some fooking car. Get a grip dude !

Steve, as for sensible advice, all is not lost. Some diesels are quite sporty. The leon Cupra FR160 springs to mind. BMW do a very nice 2.9/3.0 TD that gets you from AtoB in a reasonable amount of time and maintains quite high driver enjoyment factor

Nice suggestions there guys but I don't think any fit the criteria I wrote in the first post!

By the way, I'd rather have my two kids (currently one boy and a bump) than any bit of formed metal and plastic!

Well, for what it's worth, I feel sorry for your kids.

But then again, I keep forgetting that contraception is always the woman's responsibility

Scoobydoo555,when you get in your car and put your seatbelt on, do you put a crash helmet on too.
If your woman tells you she's on the pill then you've no cause to sort yourself out with contraception. I bet the majority of people on S/N don't wear a condom when their partner's on the pill.
I've been caught out the same way.
Saying that, Ootheca's statement about not having anything in life is crap. He now has the most important and precious thing/s in life.

My vote goes to the Leon also.
You'ld be suprised how quick they are. And they can be "adjusted" for more performance.

Firstly: apologies for this temporary thread hijack.
It happened near the end of a very fiery relationship after i'd moved out. We carried on seeing each other because we still cared a hell of a lot for one another. She thought being pregnant was going to keep us together when all we did (apart from the obvious) was argue.
Unfortunately we now live about 100 miles apart and she's not a very nice person to try and reason with. I haven't seen my son (now 2 and a half years old) for over a year and i'm never likely to.

If your relationship's ever falling to pieces and your missus is a bit of a nutter then be careful .
Cover yourself (or at least your chap)

Alg, get off your high horse and think about what your saying before posting, as you've pretty much contradicted yourself.

Responsible adults partaking in consensual sex BOTH have the responsibility of sorting out what precautions are being taken.

I can't begin to imagine the situation you've found yourself in (as per post #16), but you've also ended the statement with "cover your chap"......

Again, best of both worlds

A mate of mine has just had his Leon remap'd with a decent zorst and produced 192bhp, but an amazing 322ftlb He's now spinning the wheels in 3rd although the brakes and clutch are showing signs of inadequacy £12k should buy an 04 with change for the mods.

5 door √

Diesel √

Rewarding to drive √

Been there with an Octavia vRS. May look at a DSG 2.0TDi. Not very exciting though

Fabia would be too small and they are a one trick pony - good acceleration, medicore everyting else (apart from good residuals).

Accord Tourer 2.2 DTCi Type S (I actually prefer this over the Exec)

Sounds like Alg and Ootheca aren't man enough to control their own lives let alone look after anothers.

Yup this is a contender. I can see a weekend of dealer bothering later in the month. If I can get motivated to buy a dull car. In grey.

Sorry for the thread hijack but if some fcuked up crazy *** bitch decides to stop taking the pill without telling you after you both decided it was the method of contraception then how is that the man's fault?

What about a 2.2TDCi Mondeo, either the ST or TitaniumX.

155bhp and nearly 300lbft, great to drive and all the toys.
