I shall be travelling up for the NBO this weekend the wife wants to have a look around york on the Sat but york races is on as well so what will car parking be like?
Will be staying in Ripon over the weekend so will york be a no no?
Any advice?

More or less york is always busy never mind when the races are on my neighbour goes but books accom months in advance bus from Ripon in perhaps.

Hi. If you can get the wife to York before 10am in the morning or after 1pm, you should be okay. As for parking. Best bet really would be to use one of the park and rides. Tadcaster Road tesco or one of the others.
The only times it will be mega busy in York is around 11-1pm and then 4.30-6ish.

G-I-A-S - Is the Tadcaster Road P&R likely to be busy with the races. Certainly getting in and out of that end of York will be difficult if you arrive or leave at the wrong times!
kjdmk1 Not clear from your e-mail whether you'll be travelling from Ripon or just going on to Ripon after York? If the latter, I'd suggest using the Grimston Bar P&R (A64/A1079 junction) as it will be a darn sight easier to get back on to the A64.
Enjoy your visit - York is well worth a look around.

Thanks every one, all your ideas taken on board.
I did think about the bus:eek: but did not want to admit to thinking about using public transport on here:o but for once it might be a option, can have a few drinks as well;)
The wife and i are looking forward to our 1st visit to yorkshire and the NBO lets hope the weather stays sunny:cool:
