Rang Sigma today about the possibility of the 70 - 200 F2.8 needing rechipping to work with the D200.

They confirmed some lenses do need rechipping to work on D200's. I have 2 Sigma's a 28 F1.8 and the 70 - 200, the 28mm does need it and the 70 - 200 can be, to make use of the added functions (would explain my problems I had at Soccer 6)

Basically as a rule of thumb, if the Sigma's serial numbers start with 1 or 2, then chances are they will need rechipping, 3 or greater then you should be ok. So worth asking when you buy a Sigma lens that the shop ship you 1 with a 3 or later serial number.

Any queries give them a call, and my 70 - 200 goes in next week.

And I can confirm, they are asking to see vat receipts

Edit: Without a vat receipt they quoted me just under £40 + vat for the rechip.

I'm surprised, I would have thought they could have verified UK distribution via the serial numbers. Their systems must be crap if they can't tell which wholesaler a lens went to.

Nikon do it.
