All,
I've just won a lens on ebay that comes with a new 'Circular Polarizer'...
Now I understand this sits on the end of the lens but does anybody care to explain to me what it does....!
Cheers in advance....

On a bright summer day it will make the clouds appear more blue and take out reflections and generally enhance colours.

Not quite make the clouds appear more blue, but the sky :D
Sometimes when shooting a landscape you find the sky gets washed out, with a poloriser this helps prevent this. The sky gets a nice deep blue and the greens are enhanced a fair bit.
Reflections are also reduced or removed from surfaces.
I have some great images from Australia where the sky and water is really blue, probably wouldn't have been the same without a poloriser.

I remember when i first got mine, took some pics of a lake scene and without it the water looked white because of all the reflections, with it i could see all the plant life under the surface and even the bottom in places. Great filter to have.
Thanks for the input peeps.
I got the lens and polarizer this weekend and had a little play with it, impressive when you get it right.
Am I correct in thinking I would only really need to add this to the lens when shooting outside, when I'm shooting generally or indoors I don't really need it fitted !!

its best as an outdoor filter, best on a sunny day. Effect is best around 90 degrees from the sun.
