Hey guys,

Has anyone here fitted any subs under the hat shelf of a classic before. I've got a couple of eyewateringly nice ID8s to drop in, but am a bit flummoxed about how best to get them in place. Clues and suggestions very, very welcome.

Cheers

Smith

I know people have done the genny 6x9 subs under a classic shelf before with great results - no reason why the IDs shouldn't sound superb.

Remove the OEM speakers, make up a bracket underneath out of MDF (difficult bit is the fact that the bottom of the shelf isn't flat - have a search for genesis 6x9 on scoobynet and you'll find something) then enjoy :)

Yeah - it was the fixing mdf to car bit that was the prob, as the 8's are a bit wide to sit nicely in the divvut under the shelf without putting them next to each other. I take it cutting the shelf to make bigger holes is out of the question (structural?)

I shall search away!

Don't cut the shelf - it is structural...

yeah i thought the shelf was structural so im puttin my 6x9s in boxes facing the front, they will sit on a floor which will be screwed down and all covered in black carpet!

Yeah - thought it was. Felt happy drilling a couple of screw holes, but 8" is lots of metal. My problem is the subs are round, rather than oval, but were going for too good a price to say no - a case of I'll buy 'em and see where they best fit. Not helped by the fact I need to use to boot for everyday stuff, so a box is out of the question. I'll just have to make a shelf that sits under the existing metal structure and pop them into that, then seal it on the edges. Brilliant. More mdf work. Cheers guys. Anyone done this before and like to lend me a template...?
