Roeder free to take Newcastle job
Glenn Roeder
Roeder has led Newcastle to the brink of a place in the Intertoto Cup
Newcastle have been granted dispensation by the Premier League to appoint Glenn Roeder as manager.
Roeder, 50, does not have the required Uefa Pro Licence but fellow Premiership clubs have agreed Newcastle can now appoint him on a permanent basis.
Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd said: "Should we wish to appoint Glenn as our next manager it is nice to know we have the support of our fellow clubs."
The club will make an announcement on the manager's post next Monday.
The Premier League had initially rejected Newcastle's request for dispensation last Thursday.
But Shepherd lobbied his fellow chairmen and they voted in favour of Roeder being allowed to gain the correct licence while in the job.
Roeder had previously enrolled on the course when he was struck down by a brain tumour.
The former Newcastle captain took over in a caretaker capacity in February following the dismissal of Graeme Souness.

just remember it then when come Christmas you're asking for him out :thumb:
He's done very well for them.
But sadly there is a very big difference between a coach [and he is very good with the players] and a manager.
I mean, look at the last manager, obviously started with respect in abundance but it all went horribly wrong between him and the players.
Too much pen pushing now which makes it understandable why Mr Roeder wanted to complete his Pro licences.
Good luck to him.
mickywrx 10 May 2006, 14:35 Glenn's done a good job in the short time he's been in charge. Give him a go, see who's bought and sold in the close season. Come Christmas we'll have a better idea as to whether he's up to the job.
ROEDER IN!!!!! :D :D
Castrol 10 May 2006, 17:55 So, some of you reckon Roeder's not good enough for the job... Granted, he wasn't my first choice and I guess he wouldn't be that of many others. However, we've tried the big names - some of the greatest players to have worn a Football shirt, and some pretty successful managers too (even Souness won things in England) - and despite often decent EPL finishes (Runners Up twice, 3rd twice, 4th, 5th, 6th), we still didn't win anything.
As well as a 7th place finish and a chance in Europe, Roeder has the players working like a team, and playing decent Football. That's something Souness, Robson, Gullit and Dalglish all failed to do. We haven't played consistently well since Keegan left. That's a long time.
