I have always used NC for post processing images from the D70, and despite several bugs I have generally been happy with the programme.

After a short break from photography whilst I moved back to London with both the business and home, I have just purchased a stonking new PC setup, a new lens and am planning on a D200 in the next 6-8 weeks. I also have my own web site being built for me.

As such I am also taking the opportunity to review my workflow and software.

Given that you can get Nikon capture 4 for £50 on ebay, is anybody using this yet and what is your general opinion?

Failing that does anybody have any other program suggestions?

thanks

Ed

I needed to as I run a D200. 1 side affect I have noticed, is CS can now open the D200 and D70s raw files!!!!

It does give you alot more flexability than CS does over the raws. And personally I like it, but then I oly use it for tweaking raws before convert to tiff and use its inbuilt batch for convertion to tiff and jpg. The B+W conversion it has inbuilt is brilliant.

Yes, I certainly use it to process RAW files rather than using PhotoShop CS2's Camera RAW feature as it gives way more control over just about everything, especially if I need to tweak the exposure from time to time or, as happens, I've forgotten to set the white balance correctly. Sure, you can process your RAW files in PhotoShop but I find that using a dedicated piece of software for NEF files has it's advantages and I really don't like the way CS2's Camera RAW feature keeps trying to automatically adjust the exposure for me even when I know it's spot on (simply corrected by Ctrl-U in PhotoShop but it is a niggle). Once I'm done fidling and twiddling with my image in Nikon Cature I export it and then finish off processing in Photoshop - i.e. resizing, unsharp masking and saving.

Excellent, that's pretty much how I used NC3, will get the new one on order :)
