Owen Hargreaves? Why?

No Sean Wright-Phillips, but he takes Aarron Lennon??

Obviously does not want to win it!

He hasn't even played for Arsenal's first team yet

he's looked good in the stands though. Mind that Bent lad who's scored about 20 goals this season shouldn't even get in the 27 so I applaud Sven for that.

I wonder what price you could have got in a bookies on Walcott being named?

No Linvoy Primus?

Considering Sven mentions the squad being fast and attacking, why on earth has he omitted Wright-Phillips, who has both qualities and has scored for England already?

Rooney might have been inexperienced before playing for England, but people already knew how good he was from the club game. I've not even heard of 2 of the squad! Ho hum.

I think Walcott might be a secret weapon for Arsenal in the Champions League final. Wenger has been holding him back and Barcelona wont have seen him and wont know how to deal with him. His pace with Henry could be Wengers master plan.

In all reports Walcott on the training ground has been something special over the last few weeks. Erikson and Tord Grip have been watching him more than any other player so they must have seen something to include him.

I am surpised Defoe has been left out but perhaps the plan will be too get Gerrard and Lampard feeding the ball for Walcott's pace and using Crouch as a target man for set pieces if Owen and Rooney don't pull through in time.

A big gamble, but that's what we need, considering our situation.

Jenas and Hargreaves, however, shouldn't go. I'd replace them with Wright-Phillips and Bent, even though I'm not a big fan of either at international level. Because of his exclusion, I fully expect Wright-Phillips to leave Chelsea this summer.

It's clear that Sven's looking to go with one up-front, with either Cole and Gerrard behind.

As a United fan, I thought Brown should have made the squad, considering the storming season he's had, as Campbell has looked out of sorts this season.

Eriksson watched Campbell and Cole in training. they saw Walcott, and immediately spoke to Wenger about the possibility of his inclusion.

This is all according to Sky Sports.

I'm a gooner, and am liking this very much. But to include him? We'll see, however I'm not going to question Sven Goran Eriksson.

Being as though i'm at the ring on the weekend of 10th June and Frankfurt is only hour and half away it might be rude of me not to pop along to the Paraguay game. Wont get in but nice to soak up a bit of the atmosphere.

is it really that much of a gamble?
if the players are fit then the 11 pick themselves.
playing 1 up front we don't need 5 strikers.
pleased to see downing in the side
lennon and walcott are the players that he's gambling on.
gambling on 2 players out of 23 is it really that bad?

Campbell shouldn't be there, Walcott's an interesting one, we'll just have to wait and see with that one. Also don't agree with Hargreaves' inclusion either.

I can sort of understand why SWP isn't there as he hasn't been playing much (but then what do you expect when you move to Chelsea, playing matches every week?).

Would have liked to have seen Wes Brown in there, he's had a cracking season, and has a great partnership with Rio, as well as being able to fill in on the right if needed.

Richardson was another I'd have liked to have seen named, albeit as a very feint outsider, on the left, but also able to fill in at the back.

LOL - I'm suprised Sven didnt pick Linford Christie as he is faster than Theo Walcott and hasnt played in the premiership either ...

So with premier league strikers who do play week in week out at a far higher level than ikkle theo being left out, I am truly baffled... :cuckoo:

(in no order) Fowler, Harewood, Zamora, Defoe, Sheringham, Lineker, Ashton, Andrew Cole, Stead, Roberts, Bent, Bent etc etc etc are all more experienced and used to top level football moreso than that child

He has used the mentality with SPW that he hasnt played enough games and then invited Walcott because err he hasnt played enough games :lol1: Swedish logic rules :lol1:

Edited to say --- HARGREAVES??????  NOOOOOOOO!!!! I've seen better midfielders playing at Southport FC this season  Oh FFS :cuckoo:

No matter what players play I will be rooting for England but from day one have been of the opinion that Sven needs mental help and the inclusion of Walcott and Sol Campbell defy belief...Effin Eeeeeejit

Hargreaves  he is like John Barnes - and Heskey - picked for no apparent reason

Take the kid!! He could be another PELE .... we will all be singing his praises when he pops the winner in the final!! :D

No-one knows him ... this could be our best weapon. He's young, unmarked and will be keen as mustard!

Glad to see Ericsson taking risks, but Walcott is one too far - I hope he does well how can you tell when he's never even played in the Premiership?

I've been saying for months that Lennon would get a call up.

Thank God, no Bent - when he played in the friendly he was obviously trying but was completely out of his depth.

Hargreaves? WTF? Will probably be his last international for a while with any luck.

Still think we're light on strikers though, Defoe must be gutted being No. 24 again...

I think seeing him in training multiple times would be a lot more telling than you lot trying to knock him without seeing what Erikson and others have seen.

If he plays in the Champions League final then he might just show some of the promise that has got him a place in the squad.

 So why doesn't Wenger pick him for a Premiership game? doesn't he watch training? :wonder:

"If" and "might" isn't a good enough reason to be picked for the World Cup. Players like Bent and Defoe must be feeling well p155ed off :o

 So why doesn't Wenger pick him for a Premiership game? doesn't he watch training? :wonder:

Because the best we were going to get was 4th anyway so no need to play him. However keeping him for the Champions League final if we made it could be a shrewd decision as Barcelona wont know how to mark him or play against him as they wont have any recent video footage of him to work from.

We would then have two incredibly fast players up front instead of just one. I'm not saying he will play but its a possibility if Wenger wants to throw a spanner in the works of Barcelonas tactics.

He has been picked in a squad of 23 players for gawd's sake, he is hardly risking the chances of the rest of the team by including him. He has been picked for his pace, I bet there isn't any other English forward who can run as fast as he can and his finishing has been proven with the goals he scored while at Southampton, even if they were against inferior opponents.

I must admit that Hargreaves wouldn't be in my squad but perhaps a german based player offers a tactical advantage, especially on the pitch if he plays?

Sk.

ps:would've taken Bent ot vassell.
