Just got myself a new D50 :D thought it might be a good idea to get another spare battery, would you recommend getting an original Nikon EN-EL3e or will one from an independent manufacture be OK, what do you suggest ?

Hi

We use ones from 7dayshop in the D70s at College. So far they've taken loads of hammer, and perform as well as the originals. Just make sure they're the same power rating - 7.4V and at least 1500 m/Ah (IIRC) - as not all compatibles are. The non duff original EN-EL3s were 1400 m/Ah and still work fine however.

Cheers

I think Hahnel ones are rated ok. I use these in my D70 on a Hahnel grip.

A mate bought some cheap one for a Canon D10 and even at same AH rating they weren't as good as the originals.

BTW you can get a Hahnel battery grip for the D50 for £99 including 2 batteries which looks like a good deal.

Cheers

Used non Nikon spare battery in my D70 and D2X with no problems at all. Chances are they are made in the same factory with a different sticker put on them!
