Evening folks, I need some help please.

Tried a search for Canon A85, but just got threads about buying one! :)

My A85 (which I've had for over a year with no problems) has suddenly decided that it won't show anything on the LCD screen when taking shots - I now have to use the viewfinder only, which doesn't give a true representation of what is in the lens' field of view.

The LCD screen itself is fine as all images are available when I switch to review the shots I've taken :wonder:

Does anyone know what could be causing the problem, and any way to fix it?

Thanks,
Steve

Here's a guess as I'm not familiar with the A85 -- is there a setting to switch off the LCD screen when you are taking pictures which you could have changed accidentally? Some compacts have a feature like this to preserve battery life -- a bit like when you use a camcorder, there are two readings for batteries, one for using the viewfinder and another for using the LCD screen.

Frenchie - you star! :thumb:

Yes, there's a small "Disp" button that cycles through LCD on, LCD on with speed info etc., and LCD off.

I guess I must have caught it with one of my clumsy fingers without realising!

Having checked the manual, it also says that the LCD may remain blank after changing the batteries & it'll need resetting - I think I'll say that's what caused it! LOL :D

Thanks again,
Steve
