So the big scoobynet school trip is getting closer!

I'm just wondering what kit everyone is taking?

Lenses?
Tripods?
Bags?

I need to do some shopping before we go because so far all I've got is a broken camera and 1 lense! This is not a good start!

So what in your bag.........?
:)

Cath, I'd recommend you get something at the wide end for all of the scenery and a tripod of course. I'll be packing the following:

1 body with 1GB CF card -- I'll download the pics each night to my PC before bedtime, I can get around 160 shots on the card i n RAW mode so that's plenty for me

80-200 zoom

17-35 zoom

60mm macro

mini F Velbon tripod

big Manfrotto tripod

Cokin ND grad filters, warm-up filters (maybe) and filter holder

77mm polarizing filter

cable release

mini-Trekker camera bag (if I can find one this week)

SB-800 flash

lens cleaning equipment

toilet roll in case we do some scary stuff :):):)

Plenty of euros and swiss francs

Thanks for the tip Ian, I'll have a check locally tomorrow and if there's nothing doing, I'll give the 01733 840111 number a call tomorrow afternoon and see if they can do it for me.

Ain't ScoobyNet wonderful? :):):)

They are the AW version too ! Not a bad bag either :) good as a day bag instead of dragging the photo trekker II around :) and better for carry on luggage too :)

I noticed that you can get a subscription to the magazine and a bag for free but it says 28days delivery.

Wonder what are the chances of it being here in time?

MIne and my brothers took about 4 days in total, and once dispatched they were received next day. But we did pay for them ! not sure if thats the same with the free with subs one, as they may wait for you to receive the first mag, to make sure you dont cancel the subs straight away !

For those travelling from the UK, I strongly suggest passport, travel tickets, and money. Nothing else matters that much :D Who is Swiss Frank?

On the photo side, I will bring all my Canon kit, and am very willing to let anybody borrow whatever they like.

Canon 20D
Canon 350D
CF cards
Epson P-2000 storage/viewer
Canon EF-S 10-22mm
Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS
Canon EF 70-300mm IS DO
Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Canon EF-S 60mm Macro
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro
Canon 580EX flashes x4 plus rechargeable batts
Manfrotto tripods/heads (lots of/various)
67mm and 77mm polarisers

I also have a silly idea of bringing a couple of basic studio flash lights and a small (portable, supposedly) light-top table. I quite like the idea of shooting some still-life shots of the of the food we'll be cooking/eating in the chalet. Could do a few nice portraits, too :) Nudes of Paul anyone :D No? Maybe not ;) Is there space in the chalet, Paul?

If anybody wants to take up this Digital Photo magazine/free bag offer and has problems, PM me. If the bags are in stock, I can maybe bring them over with me if necessary.

Best,

Richard.

Richard, you forgot to pack your sherpa for that lot! I picked up my (new :)) AW mini trekker yesterday and put the gear into it that I'm planning to walk around with, then added my tripod on the back...this is not going to be easy hauling about 10 kilos up the side of a mountain! I'm considering leaving the 80-200 at home (or at least in the car depending on location).

It might be worth bearing in mind that lighter may be brighter :)

Looking forward to the Jonkanoo Sauce Chris, although I've got other hot sauces in the cupboard I'm down to my last bottle of Walkerswood, so :thumb:

How much was the bag over there?

I was afraid you'd ask that...about a third more than in the UK....Geneva prices y'see and even then I found it for 31 Swiss francs less than it was in another shop - bargain (not!).

You could always lighten the load by leaving the cable release at home and using the 2sec self timer on the camera ;) - hope that tip helps :D

:)
Cath

In Minitrekker AW:
D200 with 18-70 lens (and probably the manual!)
Battery charger (better get a spare battery I guess!) (and another card)
My likkle Fuju S5000 as backup (Rechargable AAs seem to last forever! and charger)
Tripod
Continental adaptor
ummmm.... you tell I'm a novice???

A rucsac with some changes of clothes and toilet bag might be a good idea
Palm with Tomtom in car to stop me getting lost
Sleeping bag & torch in case I do get lost :p

All those car bits you have to carry when on continent... Triangle, flourescent over-jacket and headlamp deflectors etc

Likke incar fridge

Guess I'd better start putting a proper list together as the next three and a half weeks are gonna fly past :D

LOL! Actually, I've used that tip before when I've forgotten to pack the cable release and it works like a charm.

Maybe I could borrow Richard's sherpa :)

I've been looking round everywhere for an offer on a bag.

Couldn't find one under £50 so I phoned that number for the photo mag bag and they were sold out.
But they did have some with bird watching magazine on!!!
So I've ordered one of those!!
Hope I can get the patch off :) lol

If its like my Practical Photography Mini Trekker, its embroidered into it. You could unpick it but it would leave a messy section - which could be covered up with some attractive sew-on or iron-on patch.

Or you may be lucky.. my mini trekker came with nothing on it apart from the Lowepro logos :D:D:D

To cover the "Practical Photography" logo on my minitrekker, you'd need a patch 85mm wide by 35mm tall, (approx 3 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall). In my case that Welsh patch would fit OK - although can't comment if the "What? Tit" magazine logo is larger or smaller.
