What makes you think that? If you are building a car from scratch, it is very easy to build it light. Don't forget, the Escort shell is a lot lighter than an Impreza one to start with.

Proportions look 'off' to me, but this is a competition car not a beauty parader.
Huge work to do such a thing.

simple.i have built a scooby,1200kg,could probably loose 30ish kgs.bare painted shell weighed 267kg.i helped build KERMIT the mk1 escort featured in many classic ford mags, bare painted shell 260kg,910 fully built.i am also in the process of building JACK,a mk2 escort 248kg bare painted shell.when building competition cars i am very weight concious (even though i am a larger person!)with all the scooby running gear/floor pan etc that car has to weigh 1020kg.

When we built my mates impreza, it was not really lightened at all. Even with a CDS cage, standard door cards, electric windows, standard dash, "clubman" seats (not carbon/kevlar) it weighs in at 1230kg. If we'd bought carbon everything and really gone to town on the shell (like we did on his Astra when we built that) we could have saved quite a bit more. Now, the Escort has a carbon dash, the side and rear windows look like polycarbonate, and who knows if the body panels aren't fibreglass or even kevlar? As you should know, its all about the time and money you're prepared to invest in it.

hi mark
agree with the time and money factor, but scooby gearbox diff,suspension/drive shafts etc etc dont weigh less overall than gp4 escort parts.been there, got the back ache!it has to weigh more than 840kg

Shame theres no photos of the 'bay. If I ever wrote my scoob off I've a couple of 'scort shells that would make use of the components!
