This is probably a daft question but I'll ask it anyway (tried a search but no results).
Can you use lenses off the 35mm EOS cameras on the 350D?

Can you use lenses off the 35mm EOS cameras on the 350D? CharlieWhiskey 24 April 2006, 10:53 Yes, as long as it's an EF lens it will fit the 350D :thumb: I have an EOS 50E and all the lenses I had for that will fit the EF-S digital cameras (300D/350D/20D/30D) - though some non Canon ones may not work properly, e.g. older Sigma lenses. The 350D will also take EF-S lenses, which will NOT fit on an EF camera as the rear element of the lens protrudes into the camera housing. HTH ;) room 512 24 April 2006, 11:18 Thanks very much. Hoppy 24 April 2006, 18:07 As CW says, but you are aware of the crop factor on the 350D? It uses a smaller sensor than full-frame 35mm film, which effectively 'crops' the image down to 15 x 22mm (instead of 24 x 36mm for full-frame). The crop factor is 1.6x so it you have a 50mm EF lens, it will give an angle of view equivalent to an 80mm lens (50 x 1.6 = 80). This is good news if you like long lenses, eg a 70-300mm zoom effectively becomes a 112-480mm :) The downside is your EF wide-angles are not so wide-angle any more :( You also get more depth of field with a cropped sensor camera. In canon's case, its just over a stop, so f/5.6 will give you approximately the same depth of field as f/8 on a full-frame camera. Cheers, Richard. room 512 25 April 2006, 10:02 Thanks for that. I have an 80-200 Canon lens but no wide angle ones so shouldn't cause me too many problems. andyfish 26 April 2006, 18:48 I have an older Sigma 70-210 lens that sometimes works on my 300D and sometimes it doesn't. Usually works best when my 10year old is trying his hand at a few pics and then when I want to do something it packs up! andy Hoppy 26 April 2006, 20:27 Andy, Sigma may be able to 're-chip' your lens to make it fully compatible with your camera. Pumpkin 26 April 2006, 22:45 I have a Sigma 28-70 that throws up Error99 messages - only happens with this lens and its about 12 years old. Sigma said they couldn't rechip this one as they didn't have any spare parts. I have a Tokina 70-210 thats as old and that works fine, although I prefer my 70-300 as the image quality is better. |
