Guys,

I'll probs be doing the photography for the father-out-laws 60th next weekend, as i can then hide behind the camera and don't have to be sociable.

Do you reckon the built-in flash on my D70 will be up to it, or should I buy one?

ps the camera's much better than I am hence I have to ask the question...

The only thing I use my D70 Speedlight for is to control my SB800's in wireless mode. The SB800 or 600 is a very worthwhile investment, it will make your flash photography both easier & better....

I have 2 SB800's.

SB800 here as well. It's by far the best Nikon unit I've ever used and the iTTL system is a vast improvement over earlier Nikon flash systems IMHO.
