All been fine until yesterday then toilet refuses to flush unless you "pump" the handle several times then it reluctantly just flushes.
I have attached a couple of images :

When you press down on the handle, the plunger comes up but doesn't start the flush - you need to do it several times quickly to start the flush.
Any ideas ?

Diaghram in the syphon has perished ,you can fit just a diaghram but in my experiance best just to fit new syphon assembly
same work involved to replace either

Thanks Starship. Guess the parts are easy to get - what about fitting. Have no experience of toilets - is it an easy DIY job, or more involved ?

Close coupled ,you have to remove the cistern from the pan to fit a new syphon ,easy DIY just take your time ,i would also fit a new seal between the pan and cistern to be on the safe side and a new fibre washer on the tap con that goes to the ball valve , word of warning do the tap con up by hand untill its tight and then just nip it up with a spanner as it is very easy to cross thread ,and bugger it up

Your going to have to turn the supply off to the cistern ,so that you can disconnect the supply which goes in on the right at the back of the cistern ,if you dont your going have water every where
