I've just bought a 00 classic, its got the standard fit alarm\immobiliser.

is it normal for the immobiliser to re-activate so quickly after beeping the car open?

i beep it, and by the time i get in.. put the key in the ignition and turn it, the immobiliser has armed again and the car wont start, so i have to lock\unlock then try again!!!

Is this normal? Can it be changed as its most annoying! :(

The requirement for Thatcham immobilisation is that it must passively arm after 30 seconds. If you disarm the alarm/immobiliser than then take longer than this to turn the ignition on, then the immobiliser will have re-armed.

There is no need to lock/unlock the car again however - with the ignition "on" simply press the Radio Key button briefly (the dashboard LED will flash once) and the car can then be started.

that sounds easy enough... where is the 'Radio Key' button located? (probably a silly question, but due to illness i havent had chance to get to know the car\controls since buying it last sunday!)

cheers!

the 'radio key' button is the one on your fob u use to open the car! i found this out the hard way after taking my first test drive in a classic scoob and the garage not telling me about the imobiliser!! parked up, to look around the car and give it the once over. got back in and key wouldnt turn!!.......having never had remote locking let alone imobiliser i thought i had buggered it! had to call the garage and ask for advise!!

bet it was their little joke they have with all fresh faced test drivers!! buggers!!
