View Full Version : SMACS Go-karting????
Mad Scientist 21 January 2006, 20:08 I know we already have a lot on, but would anyone fancy some go karting? Bit of a break from the norm, and could be quite entertaining!
If there are enough takers, I will organise it.
Of course, everyone will have to be weighed and carry house bricks so we all weigh the same. ;) ;0
Mad Scientist 21 January 2006, 20:22 Just to highlight, we are talking about:
Teams of 3
90 minute endurance race
Outdoor 1km track
75mph race karts!
John WRX 21 January 2006, 20:27 sounds good to me
corradoboy 21 January 2006, 20:46 Can the WYIOC come
Whereabouts is the venue and when are you thinking :wonder:
cw42 21 January 2006, 21:12 pete: I know we already have a lot on thats an understatement at this point in time :) God knows how much this year is going to cost me so far :)
Of course it's a brilliant idea, and one super and I discussed a while back, but with everything else that's been planned, it got put to the back.
So, lets open it up a little then, we'll have a smacs karting day, no problem, but lets use that as a warmup for a proper competition between the wyioc, lads and cads groups. How about the best 3 out of each group go head to head over the distance, winner takes all and gives to charity?
So, have a karting event, but make is a run up to a bigger day out :) What does everyone think?
Chris.
SteelX 22 January 2006, 10:47 I'd be up for karting...
supertouring 22 January 2006, 10:47 I am up for karting, not been for a while. Never done it outside!
Endurance racing is best, in teams as Mad suggests. Lots of track time for everyone. I did a full hour race on my own once, I could not move next morning!
As for competition with other teams, I am up for that. But again I think it should be a team event not just the best drivers. IMHO.
What dates, venue, prices? I assume we are looking later into the year? Feb and March are now nearly fully booked.
Beefy 22 January 2006, 11:40 Wow never done karting before, would be up for the challenge (if I can fit in the Kart and my love-handle ballast doesnt slow me down too much!!)
:)
Mad Scientist 22 January 2006, 12:28 OK.
The place I found was in Birmingham. It has a genuine race tarmac, 1km outdoor track and, like I said, 75mph karts. The 90 minute endurance is in teams of 3 and costs £50 per person. Details are at home, and I am not at the moment.
I guess they would be booked up for a while anyway. I'll call tomorrow for full details and then we can take it from there.
To do the 90 minute endurance I think you need 21 plus people. Can't remember the upper limit, but envolving more clubs would make it more entertaining.
Having the best 3 drivers from each club is not a good idea for you Chris, as you would get cold just standing about watching!!!!!! ;)

as club president mad, I'd be #1 driver, therefore leaving only 2 places left for the riff raff :)
Sounds like a monster party could be organised here, smacs, wyioc, lads and cads, convoy down to brum, race, drive back :)
Looking out our rather busy (and ever expensive) calendar for this year, I'd suggest, like super, leaving it till later on after summer.
Balls in your court pete.
chris.
supertouring 22 January 2006, 15:31 You said it Chris!

chris.
Mad Scientist 22 January 2006, 23:36 And there we have at least one good reason not to tell you!!!
Andy S. 22 January 2006, 23:46 Dont you go getting yourself as one of the statistics that make the C&F the most dangerous road in Britain!!!!!

Well weiging in at a slim 20 stone i'm not sure they would carry that enough ballast. i would come and watch though!!!
The last time i went karting at Warrington they got upset with me so i dont think i'd go there again:mad:
The Chief 23 January 2006, 13:27 What does everyone reckon??? do we invite the WYIOC, LADS, CADS, and make it a bit of a comp????
topdog 26 January 2006, 20:59 Here's another venue for you
http://www.gygkarting.co.uk/
and it's on the EVO triangle :D
supertouring 26 January 2006, 23:06 Oh God, someone mentioned the EVO triangle!
cw42 26 January 2006, 23:53 Topdog, thanks for that link, when I looked on the website, I remember seeing that place when I was over late december :)
its just on the bottom right of the EVO TRIANGLE (http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=294000&Y=350000&width=700&height=400&gride=293769&gridn=349528&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=LL210RU&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=&zm=0&scale=25000&out.x=5&out.y=10) which is nice :)
How about a karting trip there then, 2 day affair, day 1: kart, day 2: drive the hills and valleys of wales :)
what do you reckon?
An open invite to the Lads, Cads and especially the Wyioc would be in order too chief for sure.
chris.
supertouring 27 January 2006, 07:29 Karting will not take a whole day.
Instead of the Anglesea trackday we go karting during the Wales run in Oct? I cannot see us doing two Wales runs.
Save the trackday for Elvington or something when the weather gets warmer?

True, I was looking at the format for the karting days, and even if you did the longest endurance event, you'd still have most of the day to kill afterwards.
Karting instead of Anglesey sounds better to me, then maybe we could block book Oulton Park or a proper track middle of the year?
What do you think mad?
