I am an ex-scooterist. I've had a vespa T5, p-range, lambretta GP200 and I was halfway through an LI series 3 skelly project which I sold to help fund my scooby. I was in the Mansfield Monsters SC and I still work for Scooter Restorations in Nottingham, although I'm not involved in rallies etc. anymore.

Yep, used to ride scooters, Vespa 50, 90, 100, PX125 & Lambretta LI150.. did the scooter rallys for a few years in the 80's when I had an outragously kitted out Vespa... happy days ;)

I ended up getting a Yamaha Neos because they were just so cheap (£500 for a 12 month old one). It really is scrapping the bottom of the barrel but hey ho. I did look at a Rossi replica Yamaha Aerox but at over 2k new i decided to pass on that ;)

Had a few but the best was my TV175 series 3 which was restored to near perfect condition. Sold it when they were fetching 2k, wish I'd have hung on to it.......cant get a crap one for less than that price.

just seen this (been asleep for a couple of months)
i still have my 1990 lynx (ugly i know, but the flat bit on the front mudguard was great for resting a pint on until i replaced it with a gp mudguard). full taffy kit but doesn;t look all that. i bought this scooter about 12 years ago when i sold my cut down p-range.

anyone still doing the rallies?

haven't been to any for a while other than yarmouth and hemsby last year and holland the year before as i've been working on the house, but all that will change this year!!

I have a Gilera Runner 180 for nipping round town etc and it's bloody marvelous! Less hassle than getting the GSXR out and saves any short runs and parking problems with the car!

Ohh, yes me and the old man are scooterists and have a WRX. Not doing any rallies this year as we sold the scooter just before Christmas. Looking for a newer model but it may take a while before we can afford a new one (Scoobies cost soooo much to repair). Last rally we went to was the Isle Of Wight last year.

My dad had a Lambretta at 17, he is 6'7" though so must have looked hilarious riding it :D He hasn't had a bike/scooter since as my mum wont let him, he wants a Harley to go to the shops on which isn't quite the same as riding a scooter  :lol1:

just got an odd Chinese thing - Baotian it's called, based on the old Honda Cub, but 110cc. Got it as a fresh import for £600 + postage. It's very much like the new Honda Innova which has a more modern 125 engine, but £1700! I'm amazed at the cost of scooters, even basic 50cc cost £1k + new. Must have a fair mark up on that.

May well swap the scoob for a bike once I've done my test

Nothing wrong with bopping about on a scooter, they're great fun. But I wouldn't consider myself a "scooterist" just because of that. I thought you had to wear a parka anyway...

Don't imagine for a moment that there isn't a similar markup on your Chinese copy. They are pretty awful and built down to a price using incredibly poor materials. My neighbour bought one before I could warn her. All the dodgy "UK spec" bodges fell apart on day one, closely followed by the switchgear and the carburettor (!). If you pull on the front brake hard enough, it will snap. Maybe you got a "good one", either way, be careful...

Screwd.
