View Full Version : Head lamp washers not working

I am trying to fix my head lamp washers on my MY99 and looking for advice. The windscreen washers are OK and it looks as though the same pump on the washer bottle does both jobs. When I press the headlamp washer button I can hear a click (of a relay?) from somewhere close to the glove compartment, but that is all.
Is there a separate fuse for this, I cant find it listed on my fuse box information?

Thanks

Duke

Nope, different pump.
On your '99 you have a green connector for your windscreen washer pump and a blue connector for your headlamp washer pump which is underneath your windscreen washer pump on the same bottle.
Most likely cause is either pump has given up or the tubing has become disconnected.

Thanks, I have sorted it now. Your right, two pumps. The headlight washer pump was seized, but with some gentle persuasion it is moving again. I will source a replacement ASAP.

Hi Duke - was it easy to remove the washer bottle to get to the pumps? My screen wash pump is dying and needs flushing/changing. Ta.

Marin,

Yes it was easy to remove the washer bottle, just 2 bolts I think. Some careful giggling of the wires and out it came. My pump was sized, but I managed to dismantle it and free it up. It still seems OK now. Though you have reminded me that I should really get a replacement.

Marin - I might have a spare washer pump for the windscreen.
I bought both pumps when my headlight washers packed up - the spare (unneeded one) is somewhere in the garage.

shout if its any use.

Thanks Scooby Towers - I'll have a go at it Sat am and see if it's knackered or just clogged up.

Hi Scooby Towers - the pump is knackered although hitting it with a screwdriver seems to have got it turning for the moment! If you'd send me a message with the price of your new one plus address etc, I'll stick a cheque in the post if that's OK.

Thanks,

Nick.

Hi Nick,
I need to check I've still got it as I've had a garage clear out.
Busy today but I may get chance later.
Price wise - just cover the postage & buy me a pint :)

Checked Marin and as it wasn't needed its unfortunatley been thrown out.

I've a list of 40 or so Scoob breakers on my works PC who maybe able to help (and maybe loacl ish) - drop me a E mail to chris.towers@baesystems.com and I'll send it by reply.

or try Andy at www.scoobyteknix.com he'll probably have one in and posts stuff straight away.

Hi Chris - thanks for looking. I have a feeling that Halfords do replacement pumps so I may have a quick look in there, just out of convenience.

Cheers again,

Nick.
