Anyone know of a site where I can look up appropriate dates? I didn't get to go to any last year and fancy listening to the new 1 litre (or whatever they are doing to reduce speeds nowadays) engines.

I found this (http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/hospitality/hospitality_GP_testdays.htm) on the Silverstone website which would point to the testing being on the dates listed :D

Brilliant. So I guess that the May dates will be the big one prior to the GP?

Would have thought so.

Hopefully it will be just like last year with almost everyone there.

The dates immediately before the Grand Prix are excellent. Practically every team turns up and fine tunes the cars ready for the GP. Its free to get in and the grandstands along the pit straight are open and free to sit in.

You get a whole days "racing" for free

And you will need earplugs (silverstone do have some if you don't take your own).

I have one of the F1 cars driving by as the ringtone on my phone (recorded last summer). Sad I know, but it is a unique sound.

I found there were more areas to view from than I was expecting, you are free to move about.

Flightman, you will enjoy it.

I just hope I can get a paddock pass again, just walking past the drivers was surreal.
(At least I wont have to take my grumpy ex again, who made me leave early last year)

Earplugs are for wimps (and girls);)

The dates on the Silverstone Circuit site are now 27th and 28th Feb for testing but I have also read that the new Super Aguri team will be testing there on the 14th too. I assume this is a private test date just for them?

Nicci,

I used to have the same on my phone - recorded at last years testing at Silverstone :)

Access to view is normally only from Luffield and nowhere else. Only during the major tests ie pre Britrish GP are Copse, main straight etc open to view from.
Unless of course you manage to blag a centre transfer pass.

Aside from the dates and the VIP packages, there doesn't seem to be much info on the testing days. If it is free, do you still need a ticket or can you just turn up on the day?

Is there designated parking and spectating areas for the freeloaders? How many people go to spectate for free? Single figures? Dozens? Hundreds? And when you are sat in the cold on a grass bank somewhere, is there any way of knowing what is going on?

Just turn up on the day, they will give you a ticket so that you have the usual warning that motorsport is dangerous so if you get killed it's not their fault. Plenty of free parking and in my experience the number of spectators does not need to be restricted (not that many people turn up). It's easy to know what is going on i.e. F1 cars being tested.

The May dates are now missing from Silverstone's site- any idea if they are now cancelled?
