We have managed to secure our favourite venue for one last time this year, and it's on Saturday November 3rd. It will run in the usual open pitlane format and will cost just £100. Tyres Northampton will be in attendance to supply you all with new winter rubber. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif The event is open to SIDC members only, and you must have renewed. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif You can pay online at the SIDC store kryten 20 September 2001, 21:34 Aarrggghhh. Covers all the bases and sets the friendly and welcoming tone of SIDC events very nicely. Jim, we're all wary of our first track day but I can promise you, all the pre-event nerves will have been replaced by a huge http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif after half a lap. When you get there, it'll seem like everyone's rushing around knowing exactly what they're doing, knowing eachother, and too busy to talk. Not true! Just stick your nose in and say Hi. Stef, if you can get him to stand still long enough, will be a good person to tell you who's got spare passenger seats or who's a good pilot. Quite a few people have their names on their cars. My silver saloon has Hoppy on the front number plate. You're welcome to passenger me/drive me any time. Oh, and don't worry if it's wet. Hard to believe when you've spent all your driving life trying not to get the car sideways, but it really is a hoot. Finally, SIDC are well known for having stern words with daft drivers so everyone can enjoy their day, at their own pace. See you there. Richard. chuckster 28 September 2001, 07:37 Hi Jim, first day, you'll love it, no one looks after 'newbies' like the SIDC at their track events. Getting to Donington couldn't be easier, get on the M1, go north, turn left at the Donington signs, it's only about 5 miles from the M1, probably an hour(?) from StAlbans. You need to bring your driving liscence IIRC. You will also need a helmet on track, Dono can probably supply but you should let Stef know beforehand if you'll need one. Wear some thin soled shoes or trainers so you can feel what's happening down there. Clear ALL the junk out of the car. You don't want things flying around the cabin or the boot, and it's easier to leave em at home than in the paddock. Make sure you check all the fluid levels, particularly oil, before you go out - bring some spare oil as you may burn some, and check it between outings. If you are unsure if your oil is still fresh, if it's already got a few thousand miles on it, you might want to change it before the day, and you really should change it after the day as you're gonna be generating some real heat http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif If you feel you are going to really push it I'd suggest also ordering some brake pads from Tyres Northampton, who can fit them for you during the day, this way you don't have to risk running out and having trouble getting home, you could even get some nice upgraded ones fitted first thing. If you are concerned about the life of your tyres then put 45 psi of air in em, saves the shoulders. If you aren't as concerened then I'd say put in about 5psi more than you'd normally run. There will be instructors available, usually on a 'first come first served' basis, and plenty of Dono 'vets' who'll volunteer to passenger with you to help point out the lines. Also the first session is always a 'ducks and drakes' where you go out in a line behind an instructor and he shows you the lines, pay attention here! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Use the cones, they'll explain them in the breifing and they really do help. Have fun and listen at the drivers briefing, in the end just go at your own pace, if someones faster let them through, as they will let you past if the roles are reversed. Waffle ends. Cheers Chuck (Who won't be there http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif ) DavidLewis 29 September 2001, 19:17 Hoppy, I was going to post the same sort of comments about Chucks post but thought i might sound patronising. Still, it was a good post. Anyway, are there any spaces left peeps, as I didn't think that "SHE" would let me go to both Donno and Brands. Thought wrong didn't I http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif jimi 29 September 2001, 22:14 Hi fellas Thank you all so much for the information that you have given to me,it has been a great help,i have raced go-carts for several years but i have not done anything like this before,so i am nervous to say the least. I look forward to seeing you all there,if anyone can give me instruction i would be very greatfull. My car is a my99 cool grey wrx sti 4 door, lots of mods,17gold wheels. Keep a look out and come and say hello. Kind regards JIM TKH 01 October 2001, 09:34 Stef Count me in if there is still a place Regards Tim Hoppy 01 October 2001, 15:00 Jimi, you've raced karts (that well known 'non-contact' sport http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif ) and are worried about a track day!!! It'll be a breeze, m8. See you there. Richard. Tim Taylor 01 October 2001, 15:19 Jimi Just to follow on from Chuckster's advise jimi 01 October 2001, 17:36 Tim Good information fella, thanks a lot and also thanks again to every one who has helped. When do i get the details sent through about what time to get there for etc? See you all there if i dont see any of you at the watford meet( check out souther meets) Cheers JIM Blow Dog 01 October 2001, 23:50 I'll be there! Fat Boy 02 October 2001, 00:10 See you there http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif T5NYW 02 October 2001, 12:31 Jimi, You will find Dono extremly great fun and always a great gang there. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif The corners that are the hardest to grasp (IMHO) are the Craner curves. This is where bing time is gained or lost. By the way Donno will be pretty hard on nearside tyres and Brake pads I would invest in a spare set of Pads or put a new set in and keep the old ones for just in case. Remember you drove it there and you'll need to drive it home http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Tony Ps I creamed a Set in 11/2 trackdays and drove home on handbrake http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif could get fronts but no rears. rear pads a not so common !!!. Stef 02 October 2001, 15:40 Everyone that books will also receive an info pack by email a few weeks before the events which covers the days timetable as well as some more helpful tips. The reason I ask is cos I looked the other day, saw there were 32 available, and thought there was no hurry to book (but did it anyway http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ) - if this is an unreliable theory i'd like to know! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Ta Dave T-S 03 October 2001, 08:09 <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR>Originally posted by Fat Boy: <B>See you there http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif[/quote] Be afraid, be very afraid...... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Dave T-S 03 October 2001, 08:23 Actually, John, being serious for a moment ( http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif ) - just remembered I need to tell you something off BBS and i've deleted old mail with your email address in. Can you mail me on david.standing@bmsgroup.com so I can contact you. Cheers gregh 03 October 2001, 11:03 ref the track days tips, they look very similiar (ie identical) to the ones I posted ages ago, could you perchance have 'borrowed' my pages without checking with me? Tim Taylor 03 October 2001, 14:13 Greg Sorry mate, have not seen "your" version of the Track day Tips. I got them from a post some one made some time ago on this board and I e-mailed the person who I got them from so someone else has copied yours!! I do say at the top I have pick these up from various sources and do not say they are mine. The fact is they are great tips and if you are the originator of these tips may I use them on my web site? I didn't intend to do a blatant copy of someone else's work and then take credit for it. Tim |
