View Full Version : 2006 Subaru Challenge ?
ALEX307D 30 December 2005, 15:20 Has anyone registered/interested in the 2006 Subaru Challenege ?
I have e-mailed regarding it and had no answer, All I know is that its using rounds within the BTRDA.
Anyone got anymore info ?
mark@wrx 30 December 2005, 15:59 Alex, there has been a lot of banter about it on the Rally forums. Nobody is entirely sure as to what is happening, especially with those reduced price and spec cars that Prodrive are knocking out for £35k!! If it's anything like last years balls-up, i'd stay well clear. I think they had 6 cars registered with about 4 making it to each round. Not very good....and I recall somebody saying the promised prizes were changed part way through the year:Suspiciou
ALEX307D 31 December 2005, 18:33 Hi Mark,
Happy new year (for later)
Is it only me and you who chats British Rallying on here . LOL
Yeah, I had registered for it last year, but like you say,. it was a balls up, prizes changed, rounds changed, no real regulations, then I got my cheque back at the malcolm wilson. ;)
Also, you had to use Silverstone tyres, that had to be supplied via them, etc etc.... :wonder:
I think i may take your advise and steer well clear. Although, seeing it's part of the championship (BTRDA) it could be beneficial.:Whatever_
Glyn Jarman did it last (this) year, I'll give him a ring i think and see what he says.
What other Forums have you seen it on ? Am I missing out on some rally forum somewhere ? I only really go on this one.
Waht road car do you use by the way mark ?
Alex.
mark@wrx 31 December 2005, 18:50 One of the best forums is http://www.britishrally.com It's surprising who goes on there! A lot of top names from national rallying regularly post, organisers, marshalls, etc.
Glyn's car was for sale in MN a few weeks ago, i'll be surprised if he sold it looking at the asking price:eek:
My road car? An Evo 7:D and a Corsa GSI for trackdays(when its built!)
terryb 31 December 2005, 18:53 Hey Alex and Mark
Happy New Year to you guys. If this event doesn't take off then maybe you would be interested in what I'm organising - the Scooby Speed Championship. Not quite rallying, I know, but the competition and general enjoyment will be there.
Have a look at http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=477895
Cheers
Terry
Swindonshell 01 January 2006, 16:08 Hi All,
This is my first time on a forum, so here goes..(well apart from for sale sites)..I have also enquired about the Subaru Challange 06, e-mailed a certain Mr R Aurther, on numerous occasions and have had no reply either, however i did managed to speak to someone else involved but all they could tell me was what we already know, 8 rounds of BTRDA. i think all will be reveald at the Autosport show in January...I hope so because like you i need to make plans to..
Shelly..
ALEX307D 01 January 2006, 18:20 Is that Shelly as in Shelly Taunt by any chance ??
I see you have an entry in for the Wyedean like myself :thumb:
Swindonshell 01 January 2006, 18:43 As in Shelly Taunt Yes...
ALEX307D 01 January 2006, 19:11 Hello Shelly,
I remember you passing me when i was doing the north humberside in the beige MK2, it went completely off a carb, got going again in the end. After you shot past me. LOL:brickwall
However, I'm now in N4 along with you.:luxhello:
Have you decided against selling your car now ?
I'm sure i seen it for sale somewhere.
Whats your plans for next year ?
I'm doing the BTRDA and the MSA English thing, and I'll see what this subaru challenege thing develops into, but judging off last years balls up i'll give it a miss.
I spoke to Jason (lakeland) about it when it first came out, and at the cambrian and he said that the 2006 prize (overall) was a run on Rally GB, but how true that is, is anyones guess.

ALEX307D 01 January 2006, 19:14 silly me, just looked at your website, I see you have a new car.
a 2 door one !! Very nice.
Spec ??
Dogbox/diffs etc..?
mark@wrx 01 January 2006, 20:48 I'm sure Jason can give us lots of "information". I chatted with him for about half an hour at Autosport last year and he was telling me how good the championship was going to be. I'm getting a feeling of Deja Vu already!
Swindonshell 01 January 2006, 23:54 Alex,
I do remember you, Julie my co-driver had her head down at the time and happened to look up as we wer passing you, she nearly cr....d herself, made me chuckle...do you still have your MK11? great cars..and yes i do still have my 4 door for sale not really advertised it yet only on here a couple of weeks ago, have dropped the price to £10,900 ono. hopefully we will be doing BTRDA, English Challenge and possible Subaru challenge this year but Rally masters looks good too, we cant decide yet. Iv not been out for the last 6 months have had a shoulder injury been in hospital twice to have it manipulated, and have to go back in 2 months time for the all clear, so fingers crossed we will be out on Wydean, we have also got an entry in for Sunseeker, busy year this year, can't wait..
Shelly
ALEX307D 02 January 2006, 00:27 Yeah, I still have mk2 (sold it to my dad) so it's still at home.
Dad runs a Mk2 as well, but only picks and chooses events, whereas this year will be my first proper attempt at a full championship.
My main aim is to do the Rally GB one day.
What spec is your new car shelly ?
My car is a bog standard 95 STI RA from Japan, self built into a virtual GpN Car.
Drummond 50mm Suspension,
Gems with anti lag,
4 pots,
Apart from that, it's standard.
BTRDA rounds are always well organised and should be good this year.
ALEX307D 02 January 2006, 00:29 Mark
Yeah, Jason gave me lots of "info" at the autosport show, just as he took my cheque, the one i got a cheque back for at the malcolm wilson (lucky escape)
Then at the cambrian he tryed tempting me into it again.
Like you say, I feel it coming on already at the Autosport show this year.
I'm going on Thursday, when are you going ?
I have my pass here already.
Alex.
mark@wrx 02 January 2006, 00:41 We are going on Saturday. Looking for seats and harnesses for my corsa.
ALEX307D 02 January 2006, 00:52 would it not be cheaper from demon theives ?
I get a decent enough discount from them.
Recently bought my g/f a corsa GSI 16V, 1995 M , amazed at how fast it is for a standard 1.6 16V !!
Good luck building yours.
Whens your next event mark, i cant remember what you told me ?
:iamwithst
mark@wrx 02 January 2006, 01:29 Don 't know yet, possibly the Malcolm Wilson. Peter's car is going to have the floor pulled straight and a new cill put on next week following our Grizedale exploits. Still trying to sell it and he wants to get a Fiesta ST from M-Sport.
My corsa has been totally stripped and fully aeroquipped. Its an ongoing project which will hopefully see it on some single venues.
ALEX307D 02 January 2006, 01:50 If I was your driver, I'd stick with the Scooby, I looked at one of them Fiestas on the video, and one was at croft,
I certainly wouldnt bother with one. :cuckoo:
then again, maybe thats where im going wrong,
Funny thing is, One make championships are the place to get spotted, not in a GpN impreza like me :freak3:
mark@wrx 02 January 2006, 11:07 Trouble with one make championships is all the best new talent tend to be attracted so it's harder to shine. The other thing is that running costs are likely to be very high as everything, yes EVERYTHING has to be bought through M-Sport! The potential cost saving area of tyres is also regulated as all the Michelins are bar coded and their location has to be accounted for at the start of each rally and all the way through.
Swindonshell 02 January 2006, 23:59 Alex,
Your asking me very technical questions..
No seriousley i brought it from Wug Utting it's a proper GRP N with all the rite bits, singing and dancing, it's a fantastic car, it's down to me now to drive it with respect....I'v got a lot of learning to do it's totally different to my other one, time will tell. At the moment a rally preparation garage has got it and i wont be getting it back for a few weeks looks like the first stage on the wyedean will be my first time back in it for 8 months..:thumb:
Shelly
ALEX307D 03 January 2006, 00:36 Hi Shelly,
Well, good luck at the wyedean anyhow, we can battle against each other. Lol :luxhello:
I'm only just getting used to mine, only done 3 events this year in it, woodpecker, cambrian, and grizedale. oh, and malcolm wilson but that was a total waste.
I'd love a Dog Box and diffs when funds allow. :brickwall
Swindonshell 03 January 2006, 00:48 You need to find a very nice sponsor.;)
ALEX307D 03 January 2006, 00:54 i certainly do.
not threw want of trying. Ive sent out loads (50+) Proposals.
only caught a few small fish.
need a massive sponsor, and need to learn to drive faster. :cuckoo:
What events have you done this year ? i know youve done few, but what have they been ?
Swindonshell 03 January 2006, 01:18 Wyedean, landed heavily after taken off over big jump ss3, bent steering.:(
Sunseeker, missfire althrough event, then had big fire on final stage 1/2 mile from finish:mad: DNF
Border counties, ss1 steering rack snapped, that was scary..DNF
Northumberside, cant remember what happened on that one. DNF
Somerset, ss9 rear diff. DNF
Manx National, New car (but diff went on last stage) got a finish just...
Dukeries...34th o/a 13th in class
Shoulder Injury from then on....
Still got old car but lots of new work has been done on it,,It's now ready to rally.:luxhello:
Sponsorship is difficult i know!! It's taken me years to find a finacial one, but keep plugging and keep knocking on doors, do loads and loads of press releases, even if they don't print keep sending them they will eventually,,if you can get your local papers interested then that is a start certainly for local company's. If you can take the car with you let them see for themselves what you have got to offer,, Just a bit of advise, hope it helps..:thumb:
shelly
GroupN 06 January 2006, 17:02 Should be fun on the Wyedean, cos I've entered to ... :lol1:

ALEX307D 07 January 2006, 11:12 That'll be the anti lag Shelly, you must have caught the switch by accident...:wonder:
