I look forward to meeting you shy and retiring track day nuts at my first SIDC trackday at Donno on the 18th. Can any one tell me if it is possible to get insured for the day? I have my car insured with Norwich Union and they cover me for track days but impose a £1000 excess. Is it possible to get cover for this first £1000? Does anyone bother?

IMO you are better going for spearate track insurance (eg Egger Lawson) that way any claims do not affect your main policy/NCB, and premiums tend to be less than £1k!

Oluton with its shell damaging track and Brunters will do more damage to Tyres the risks to premium don't seem related !!!!

Maybe different Quote for a block or club booking say with SIDC etc.

Just spoke to Egger Lawson and no joy. They said what I have is best I can get and no one will cover the 1st £1000 of a claim. Maybe my cover with Norwich Union is reasonable after all.

On the off chance, I called Privilege to get their comment on track day insurance. Low and behold, I'm covered, no additional excess, no additional charge!!!

I'm gobsmacked as its a new (ish) policy. The most annoying thing is this will be my 3rd trackday since changing to privilege and I've always gone through Eggar. Oh well

I have found that with dealing with insurance companies over the years, one person says one thing...and when u check again, it is not the case.

Was refered to an underwriter, but I take your point, if its in writing, there's no opt out.

In England a Verbal agreement goes along way in Law but with a large compnay such as Privelage and DL im sure there wouldn't be a problem, In Scotland a handshake means more than a paper commitment and thats the LAW.

Just received fax, confirming cover, although the track bit is hand written.

Not even close - try AU $5000 for a day of coverage then AU $7000 in excess for about AU $30,000 cover.

It's quite variable. I'm obviously one of the lucky ones as I have a letter from Direct Line stating plain words similar to "This is to confirm that, on policy no. xxx, you are covered for trackdays". I received this after phoning to enquire about the more subtle meaning of the wording on the policy sometime last year.

I know others who have phoned Direct Line and have been told, point blank, that they're not covered but this could just be due to recent increases in trackday popularity. I suspect you are still covered based on the policy wording but probably not after being told "No" over the phone.
