What sort of costs are involved with:

1. Remapping / tuning boxes? How much more on the insurance is it in your experience? Which remap / tuning box is best?

2. Fitting Einbachs?

3. New filters etc?

Roll on the spring when I can afford to get one...

My Fabia reasonably brisk - I have a RICA custom remap which is now being sold through http://www.chiptuninguk.com/chiptuning/frames.asp as a generic map for the Fabia. I attended the Tuner GP at Donnington this year and managed a 6.6 0-60 and 15.2 1/4 mile, with a remap and a green filter only. It has -25 Eibachs which are also a good investment.

I got RICA as my last car was looked after by chiptuning and they are very good at what they do. As yet I have not seen a mapped Fabia that doesn't smoke badly. Mine doesn't smoke any more than normal.

The cost for the generic map is £475 I think, but there are often discounts to forum users etc. however if you wanted to further custom your map they are very reasonably priced etc.

More than reasonably brisk id say. Ive heard that you can tune the pd130 engine quite easily up to 220bhp. Well when i say easily im sure AMD do it for 2000k. Or is it ABT i cant remember. Either way it would shift with 220bhp.

 

The pd130 engine is one of the best diesel engines to chip / remap. Or so i was told by Jim at star performance. It can easily re-mapped to 175bhp for about 500 quid. Check out star performance's website. They are in Stirling now since they moved but they have a good reputation for re-mapping VAG cars, in fact Audi actually get their demonstraters re-mapped there.

 

Star Performance are not based in Stirling they are now based in Dysart near Kirkcaldy.

 

They used to be in Glenrothes. Cant they stay still. They are good though.

With the remap, what sort of time does it take from say 50 - 90 in 5th or 6th gear?

 

I just bought an AMD brand new one-click on a Briskoda group buy for £300!!! Great price. The running costs of a standard Fabia are great if you have been used to anything thats even a slightly bit thirsty! I could wax lyrical about the vRS all day but I won't

The 2 things I least like about the Standard Fabia is the handling and the brakes. But as an overall package its a low cost, grin inducing, ball of fun with a capital F. Its not screaming fast but it sure feels good to drive!

It stops me buying something that would easily double my running costs and there aren't many half sensible cars that can do that!

 

i had my golf gt tdi 130 mapped a few weeks ago, on the rollers which was nothing to do with the guy that mapped the car it put out 134bhp as standard, after it was mapped which cost £300 it went back on the rollers a week later and put out 197bhp. very happy with the results.

 

Wow thats some gain. I now what you mean about it producing 134bhp. Apharently virtually all pd130 engines actually produce more than the quoted 130bhp that VW, Audi etc state. They seem to be pesimistic with their figures. Still 197bhp for 300 notes is some return. Bet the TCS in never off.

 

I will have a go later - through the gears it is through 100 in no time. 4th is the killer gear but 50-90 in 6th will be a breeze.

 

NB: Researched but haven't taken the plunge as LV won't let me mod. the car. Roll on April . Generic remap £350+, custom remap £500+. Tuning boxes (Dragon) turn up on ebay every now and then. Fitting Eibachs, AMD do them fitted for £380. Green panel filter and/or SEAT Cupra air intake pipe - not a lot. Other useful things to have: - Mudflaps (front and rear). - Cruise (cheaper if factory fitted by far). - Xenons (?) - Phatnoise digital audio player. J.

Vindaloo you mean cruise costs less when fitted aftermarket than factory fitted? I got cruise added to my PD150 for £150 inclusive by a VAG specialist, sure it can be done cheaper DIY as well ie £50.

 

I can do 70 - 95 in 6th in 6 seconds - i do have a little vid clip, but i will have to post it in the new year - have a good one peeps.
