Future inlaws have got an older shape 'P' reg Mondeo 1.6(Mk1 maybe ). Sometimes heater seems to blow warm air, sometimes it doesn't. Would this just be the thermostat or maybe a block in the radiator (drain & refill to fix ??)

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thermostat or heater matrix, though the latter you would notice more as you would probably get more moisture on the windows.
Try the flush first to see if thats the problem.
