Popped out for a drive and came across the local grave yard, whipped out the camera and got a few shots in......................

i'm probably going to get flamed here, but they don't do anything for me.
first one is technically fine. on the second, the grave behind the flowers is in focus, but the colored flowers, which are out of focus take your attention - looks a little confused.
as far as composition, and this is my opinion, the shots should tell me something otherwise they feel a little irreverant.
remember the shots of the acre consuming white stoned graveyards of normandy? my throat closes up looking at those.
i'm probably not making much sense, but the composition doesn't do anything for me and i think this sort of content should.

Hey Chefdude, no flaming from me! This is why i submit pictures here, because i need different peoples comments and critiques.
I personally love the top one, i think its to do with the texture in the stones and the way they stand there dominating the church grounds, i personally find it to be a very powerful and dark image, that appeals to me.
The second shot, i totally see your point of view, i should have focused more on the flowers and smaller, headstone perhaps i should have sharpened that area up a bit. Even so, i see what you mean reference the composition and on reflection it does now seem rather bland.
Cheers

Paul,
I really like the first too, the sharpness of the first stone works really well along with the chosen DoF, as the next two stones move more out of focus, and the background out of focus but still easy to see whats there.
Only thing i find quite distracting in this pic is the highlight on the top of the stones in the background.
I agree with Chef on the second pic, would have prefered the flowers nice and sharp with the background nice a blurred :)

Dazza, wtf, it's only a photo!
I like the first and 3rd shot, the 2nd one just does not work, the whole colour and B&W thing looks odd and as said above composition is not good!
