OK Folks
After much searching I have found someone who can supply ECU chips for early classics (1992-1996) and will do a Group Buy at competitive prices. The chip is similar to a scoobyecu in that it slots into the blank Eprom socket located on the ECU, it raises the fuel cut, raises the boost to 16.5 psi and adjusts the timing and fueling to compensate for the increased boost and also to provide better driveability. The chip has been tested extensively with the following ecu's, Z4, W6 and U8 and will also work if your car meets the following criteria.
1. Car is a classic between the years 92-96 either WRX or UK Saloon
2. ECU is a four plug with the Eprom Socket or space available for it.
3. No bigger turbos or front mounts, as these will require custom map really.
4. WRX Wagons, STi 2 and STi 2 RA's unfortunately require different MAP's.

Attached is a Dyno charts showing the increases in power and torque. One thing to note is the chip has been tested on a 1994 WRX with a standard downpipe, the chip is actually mapped to take advantage of a fully de-catted exhaust so should see higher gains with a full de-cat.

The prices are as follows
10 people - £225 each
20 people - £195 each

If your ecu does not have a eprom socket on the board, one can be supplied and you can get it soldered in yourself or you can send your ECU to the supplier and he will solder the socket in for £40 including special delivery return of ECU.

A VOS chip isn't quite the same though. Doesn't a VOS illuminate the CEL and also require a mechanical boost controller in most cases.
In other words it's just pulled timing and removed the fuel cut.
I think it may even use a Aus Legacy base map.

P.S These chips 'ARE NOT MINE', so I have no 3rd party interest in promoting this group buy. However, I do know their source.

True you used to be able to get ScoobyECU's for £80, you also used to be able to buy petrol for 25p a litre, unfortunately those times are gone.
I have had a good look around at current ECU options including Apexi, Unichip, Vos and the ScoobyClinic ECU chip. Whilst it is recognised that most of these other options will give you a more custom map with potentially higher power gains I couldn't justify the cost associated with them.
I read quite a lot of posts about the VOS chip on the Aussie Legacy Forums and wasn't too happy with what I read about the boost control and the other points Scott mentioned.
What this chip provides is good power gains and improved driveability for lightly modded cars at a reasonable price (by todays standards).

I have an avcr boost controller in my car when i used the VOS chip, had it set at 1 and 1.2 bar with no prob, CEL on yeah but that is due to being mapped for a legacy, car ran fine and had it in for ages before getting a proper setup using an Apexi Power FC

When I bung the odd one or 2 on Ebay, the starting price is always £60. If people want to pay £250 - £400 that's their choice.

If I can get good money for them with little or no hassle, and sell them as and when I choose, then why would I want to sell them for £80.

When I used to charge £80 -£100, I used to get 2 or 3 ECU arrive to be converted each week (I had 4 in one day, once), and they always needs to be back in the post the following day to get the car back on the road. Thats as well as a full time job and 2 under 5's to sort out every evening.

Quite a service for £80, I think you'll agree.

Everyone always said that they should of been alot more money. Well now people are charging what is still thought to be a fair price.

I still get comments that it's the best money people have spent on their cars, even at £250+.

Get over it.... the days of £80 remaps are over.....................

Sorry, but it is to do with me when people keep insinuating that they are being over charged for Pre96 ECU upgrades.

I was one of the 3 original people on S'net to provide the upgrades. And as mugs we agreed the price initally would be £60. This gradually rose to £100 - £120 and then for all of us it became a bit laboriouse.

I think Pavlo now charges £350+ for a custom map and Scoobyclinic charge about £500 (although not sure if this includes RR time).

Custom mapping is great and worth every penny if you have a very bespoke setup. But if you have the usual mods of Filter/Decat etc...etc.. then the generic maps will get you 98% there and include all the safety features of the standard ECU.

Just have a look on some Jap sites and see how much Mines, Zerosport and Prova are charging for exactly the same thing. It's alot more then Benno.......

not worried anyway as have an apexi power fc properly mapped at 1.5 bar, just drop it mate your boring me now.

It wasnt aimed at you scott, i know you did a grand job on the scoobyecu, i actually bought one off you a while back.

Just thought it a good bit of a price hike from last year, but when you look at price of a new apexi and remap that i paid at £800 then its not so bad.

Will have a look at the part no of the pads, is it on the back of em?

The chips have been developed on the rolling road until the maps were producing the required results, i.e. more midrange torque with an aggressive turbo spool producing the best gains where you need them most.

just out of interest,
ive got a my93 wrx and know this will fit,
i have a few minor mods ie full decat,ind kit,upgraded fuel pump and reg,fuel cut defender and manual boost controller,if i was to have this fitted would any off my mods need to be removed or would this chip work with them??also its over fuelling like a bitch(not complaining though).so once this chip is fitted does it need to be set up ie on the road or rollers??

I don't think you would need to remove any of these mods apart from potentially the manual boost controller(mbc), as the primary function of this is to raise boost which the chip does anyway however I have read that some people have run an mbc with a similar chip although from what I could see there were no massive benefits and ideally you would want to set at the same boost level on the mbc that the chip does (16.5 psi).
The chip has already been mapped on a rolling road so you will not need to do this, it also re-maps the fuel and ignition so will solve your over fueling problem.

In terms of payment, as soon as we get enough people we will organise payment.

This chip does map the car for UK fuel (Super Unleaded). It was mentioned higher up in the post, but not in the original write up...

The ECU is located in the passenger footwell. Take the carpet back, unbolt the foot plate and hey presto!!
