There's no such thing unless you can define your goals. Road, track sessions, sprinting, rallying, etc..

How long's a piece of string?

AST's and the Whiteline stuff get very good reviews for road-based cars.

It all depends on budget, what the primary use of car is, driver's preference etc.

My personal choice if I had a high budget would be a full Reiger or Penske bespoke shock & spring set, a lot of chassis bracing, Noltec/MRT/K-mac castor/camber top mounts and most Whiteline goodies.

On a 'slightly' lower budget I would change the Reigers/Penskes to Whiteline Group4 or AST.

Cheers,

Job

If you wish, check my Project Thread 'In search of the perfect chassis'

Above all be sure what you want from the car.
Power has little to do with it, other than an Impreza with 205 bhp and a killer (appropriate) chassis will murder an Sti with stock chassis (same driver)

Chassis first, bhp second (IMHO)

Don't forget brakes!

Fpah, they're over rated ;) if you need better brakes you're not going fast enough round the corners :D

Upgrades should be in this order:
Training
Brakes
Suspension
Tyres
Power

Not:
Power
Neons
18 inch spinners
Phat stereo

OK?

Training?
My ego will not allow it :norty:
But, I think that is a very pertinent point and one many forget (avoid in my case).

Nice list and makes a lot of sense and is the order I'm doing on my Forester at the moment as it happens but interested to know why you put tyres after suspension ? Would have thought it would make sense to do brakes then tyres ?

My thoughts on the tyres:Standard tyres will 'let go' earlier and therefore at slower speeds and hopefully progressively so you can learn how to handle a car in a safer way. When you have sticky tyres then you need to be ready for when they slide as things will be happening faster.

Best suspension ? Stick with the original !
You still have a road car, rock hard suspension or lower 2f2f look's will kill the roadholding, drivability and most of all, "feel" of the car.

I had 2 types of coilovers, then switched back to standard dampers/springs and finally (after 70.000 miles) have now a set of Kayaba dampers/original springs.

Hi Creepy,
Apart from the ASTs what were the other coilovers you tried?

Did you try Eibach springs with the KYBs?

As ever, depends on the cars use.
My Sti is a hillclimb car driven to/from the events.
Sorry Floyd, but about '380/407' bhp etc but I use happily stock brakes.
No fade issues on a hill climb. Discs go blueish sometimes but ok.

Running the 'Ring the brakes would be doomed.

I would agree that suspension before tyres unless the tyres you realy want to lean on are crossply slicks, then the geometry is slightly different to a road radial tyre setting.
I race on road legal radial Kumho V70A's soft compound so all is well on the road and track with same settings.

On the road the Toyo's I had were nicer than the Kumhos.
Opposite on the track, but the transition from grip to slip on the Kumhos is a narrow path in comparison to the superb Toyos.

Sideways motoring is slowest on a hill climb so i manage to keep away from the limit (scares me as it is).
Graham.

H i Floyd, mail received...LOL
Hi Duncan, I sended you a mail about 5 months ago, never got an answer... :(
I send you also a mail !

Besides AST I tried also Leda... But sadly, after sale service here is difficult because of the distance between us and the factory...

Sorry Wouter (Creepy) I'll be sure and answer this one :nono:

Just for the record Wouter found the Eibach springs too short for the AGX struts (which are the same dims as std) and the springs would be loose at full extension.

Yes, totally true.
Imagine taking Pflanzgarten, or any other crest when you know things are just too short...
And I'm not talking about "knocking sounds" then....
