View Full Version : Calling all track day virgins.....

There must be some of you out there who like me read all the track day stuff and can't help wanting to have a crack.

If a group of us 'virgins' could arrange to attend a track day on a specific date we could all provide moral support for each other !!

I've got no track experience at all (except karting obviously!) but would really love a blast around Donnington. As I understand passengers are allowed (my girlfriend actually put me up to this so that she could participate!) and I'm sure the old hands on here would look after us new kids just fine.

Presumably it's ok to use your normal everyday wheels and tyres - I'd like to keep this first visit as simple and cheap as possible. Obviously you'd lose a few months/years(!) worth of wear on normal road tyres but what the hey.

Did I read correctly that 97 is available in pit lane ??

Helmets - what's the approved standard required ??

If anyone's interested let me know - Donnington would be cool but open to suggestions. Also any suggestions on a date ?

Neil.

I'd in interested in a 'virgin' day!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

No, seriously, I'm a track 'virgin' and would be interested.

I have a 'Type A' crash helmet, and some karting gloves.

Ready, when you guys are!!!

OK guys.
There are a couple of days coming up. I believe the next full day is on Sept 25th though there are a couple of evening sessions available which cost the same (£100).
If you are in the SIDC though, the Brands Hatch day should also be a good place to start. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Chuckster, Stef,

Thanx v much for the info - what's the score on the evening sessions, are they worth the £100 in your opinions as opposed to a full day ?

Brands also sounds interesting but I'm not in the SIDC.

I am very interest in Track Days and am like many others - a virgin when it comes to circuit driving, although I have very limited experience of putting the Scoob up Prescott Hill Climb in Gloucestershire.

I would love to try a track day http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Once I've finished my University Project that is! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

September sounds about right. Perhaps Stef and John Felstead could give us some guidance? and if it's Donnington RobMac is an instructor there.

Sounds like a good idea to get a group of us together.

Sept full day has been axed. I spoke to Dono today and they only have the 2 evening sessions left, Aug 24 and sep 8.
These are 3 hour sessions, 5.30 till 8.30 and are run in the same 3 groups as full day - beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions of 15 mins each.

£100 for 3 runs on track doesnt sound good value to me!

If you add on top of that the cost of getting there and the time off work its makes no sense at all.

If you are a track virgin i suggest you go on a full day event, it puts less presure on you to get it all done quickly and you have the lunch break to reflect and discuss how the morning sesion went.

You can easily loose 2 sessions sorting out problems as well, i should know http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL

John,

Good points - slightly obvious in hindsight but I thought I'd ask anyhow !!

I trust we don't have to be humiliated by your Westie ?? Is it muzzled ?? Having very recently been a passenger in such a vehicle (4.5litre TVR lump, 300 odd brake, and quite literally gob smackingly quick) I'd be scared witless seeing one approaching at high speed !! lol

Full day session it seems to be then.....but where and when. Sometime next month ??

I had the same thoughts and have booked onto an Easytrack session at Bentwaters on 2nd September for my initiation.

I hope that an airfield will offer more space and less armco should things get out of hand ... also it was all I could find on a weekend.

Anyone else going or been to Bentwaters before ?

Suggestions and advice appreciated !

Just booked up for Abingdon on August 30th.
First time of doing anything like this, looking forward to it, but a little bit nervous!!
Should just about finish off the Potenzas.
SO-2s will replace them.

Just signed myself in too.
Fine tune already booked with Bob Rawle luckily 3 days before ! Hope all those Cossies aren't 350+bhp buggers - somehow I don't think the Link will stretch quite that far on my Scoob !

Neil.

Don't worry, a 'Linked' car should see any Cossies up to 350bhp well and truly off!
I'm looking forward to seeing what flavour those two Sapphire's are myself! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Talk to Graham Goode in Leicester - they may be the quickest solution but probably not the cheapest ! grahamgoode.com

If I am on hand and you want a guide, you only have to ask. I am normally very happy to help people who want to improve their driving.
The Donnington days are my staple diet. I find that people often wnat to come on our wetter the better course to understand the basic principles clearly before the do something expensive.
