After reading the garage thread on here (more like a new house with spaces for a car!) it's given me so many ideas and useful tips.
Does anyone know of any decent sites where they follow peoples house building projects from start to finish or a DIY build forum that shows similar things.
I've had a search with Google but I swear it's getting worse for adverts and all I seem to get back are DIY stores.
Doesn't have to be self build house projects, things such as renovation or extensions would be good too.
Ta, Andy
BTW if you don't know which thread i'm on about it's this one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=242131
A garage i'd be proud to call my home :thumb:

Not wanting to state the obvious, but have you looked at Grand Designs (http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/grand-designs/houses/index.html) ?

Well, the first thing to ask is what sort of thing are you looking to undertake.... complete build from scratch... or rebuild.. or extension.......
We started with this...

And 2 1/2 years later we have this.....

It took a hole year to even break ground.... the planners took ages to decide what we coulod and couldn't build, and even though there were no objections, it still took 8 months to get approval....
the actual build took 18 months.... we had a single groundworker and myself digging all the footings, and getting up to floor level, and installing the beam and block floor, then the team of three brickies and one labourer turned up and put the bricks on top of each other.....;)
Then the chippies came and cut the roof, not easy due to the design, then the roofers came and oput the hand made roof tiles on...... from then on, i did everything myself, and i mean, myself, windows, doors, electrics, underfloor heating up and down, plumbing, all interior woodwork, stud walls, plasterboarding, kitchen, utility room, bathroom, showeroom, etc etc etc, i did get a plasterer in, and obviously a Corghi plumber to install the boiler, i even did all the hard landscaping in the garden, but mother did the green stuff..... i don't 'do' plants.....
If you have any specific questions..... ask on here, there are people form all spectrums of life..... I now work part time for a builder off the back of doing this.... don't earn a fortune, but enough to fuel the scoob ocasionally.....
Happy building....

very pretty house ron.
andy - try plotfinder.net or you might find something on diyfixit.co.uk - there are a few other self-build sites but can't remember them at the moment.

RON, that looks amazing. Most people add a garage to their house, looks like you added a house to your garage!!
I'm really just mulling over a self build and it's a semi pipe dream at the mo. I just want to be a nosey bugger and see how a few builds went warts and all and web sites/forum seem the best for that sort of thing.
I have looked at the Grand Designs site but they tend to go for the extravagant rather than the more "normal" builds and restoration.
I'll keep on searching.
Richard, ta for those sites. I'll have a browse :thumb:
p.s. Is it Extravigant or Extravagant ..... or just posh ???

LOL @ the 'adding a house to the garage bit...... dunno what i would have done without the workshop to store all the crap that goes with building.....
Extravagant.... in my dictionary.... or just plain expensive!!

Just to bring this thread back to life I found a great link on another forum in the end.
