Right, first things first, I do not want this thread to go the same way as the last one

I want to clear up one point about bentley 2001. SIDC was NOT in any official capacity invited to the event, all SIDC did (and I'm not demeaning them) was to subsidise to the tune of £5 each SIDC members food.
*I* asked Peter Skelton (Sussex Regional Organiser for Porsche Club GB) if we could come to Bentley, he said yes, I then posted on this 'ere bbs, telling people about the meet and asking them to come along. Thus the event, from the scooby side was aranged, if you can call it that http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif by me. Kim did a great job at setting up the convoy and leading them down, as did Dyney, so thanks to them as well. Oh and thanks for Suzy for taking the SIDC membership reclaim thing around and getting people to sign it (see, she does do stuff for other people http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif)

Hope that clears things up.

Right onto the meet (sic)

Bentley 2001 was, i my humble opinion a good day out, ok, so the weather was not as good as it could have been, but hey, we're in the UK, so what do you expect. Thanks to SIDC for the <I>food fiver fing™</I>

So, I'd like to try and get a repeat performance going, so I have some questions.

a) Would you like the event to say the same, eg; porker event which we get invited to?

b) Would you prefer it to be a subaru only event?

c) would you prefer it to be a subaru and <I>insert jap car club name here</I> event?

d) would you come along regardless of the presence or not, of another car club?

Just curious to see what people think.

I'm asking now as Bentley gets booked up pretty quick, and if we want our own event I need to sort things out as quick as possible so we can secure a good date.

so, opinions please.

Right ball rolling,

B,Subaru only event(though I'm not opposed to sharing,C)

D, Will come what ever(just arrange it so I'm not working that weekend http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif)

Another car club? (would be nice to see ours there!!!) (not starting anything http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif )

My opinion!
Iain.

oooh, think you are starting something mate http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Seriously though, if it goes ahead, and I'm hoping it will, all scooby owners will be welcome, SIDC memebrs or not.

How exactly do you envisage SIDC being there? committee members there at a stand/tent/whatever?

Just curious.

As long as I'm not working or sitting on the bog like this year I would come along.

As for just Scoobies, thats fine if enough turn out, y not ask all the Jap car clubs to gauge their response ??

Going to something thats only 1/2 full is not going to get people excited enough for the following year.

Personaly I would go what ever cars are there.

Barge.

The real question Mark is how did YOU envisage them being there? And to what end?
It's not like we were going to be recruiting new members at a Porsche meeting is it? What could a comittee member offer that you couldn't on the day?
For your guide folks the SIDC also spent time and money producing and posting flyers for the event.
Stop bitching about them for christ sake mate, why do you have to take this so personally? It was a good meet and we are all grateful you took it upon yourself to make the phonecalls to get us invited.
Much as we owe Nito, Rannoch, Tango, Kim N Dom and all the people who spend their own time to organise days and generate interest in meets.
Now...
Would I go to Bentley again? Absolutely.
Do I care if it is SIDC organised? Not a jot. Though I honestly believe that it is worthwhile getting them involved as they can send out flyers to members without access to this BBS.
Would I want to share with the porkers again? No way. If Ronnies not good enough for them then they aren't good enough for me.
Sharing with other car enthusiasts would be great.
Best regards, and hopefully no hard feelings,
Chuck

I'd get them involved, as I am SIDC member, which entitles me to get them to send out flyers for an event I'm organising, that's no problem.

OK, so I can spend all day going round, getting people filling in application forms for the club, so maybe there is no real need for SIDC to have a tent there. However, if they did then they could sell merchansise, and other stuff, which is something I could not/would not do.

Personal feeling is that it'll be a scooby only or scooby and something else meet, as we might, as you say, attract more scooby owners and potential SIDC members to a scooby only (or scooby hosted) event.

BTW I was dissapointed that the club made the £5 a member food deal. IMHO club subscriptions should be used to futher the club members interests and increase the clubs influence through its presence, not feed members and hand them their own money back as cash.
The fact is that every scoob which attended was granted a reduced entrance fee due to the invitation you secured Mark. And that's the kind of thing we should encourage the SIDC to do, use it's size to leverage the deals it gets with suppliers of goods and services. Already Subaru UK dealers offer 10pct off to members. Maybe we should loby the SIDC into approaching Park Lane, Warrenders, TSL etc and yes even Scoobysport in an attempt to strike a better deal for the import owning SIDC members.
Regards
Charles

Matt,
that's coz it's in the members section, only availble to SIDC members who have requested access to that area.

Bascially it goes like this:

Would I come along??? don't think so, why not, well...

why Bentley anyway?? surely there must be somewhere else we could go?? Bentley's OK the first time, passable the second, but third time?? what could you possibly do there that you haven't done already and you couldn't do anywhere else??? lets change this record and put heads together and think of something DIFFERENT to do.. and whatever it is, no PORSCHE drivers - after Ronnie 'n all....

DOM, WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

anyway, any chance of actually getting back onto the actual reason why I started this thread, seems it is going the same way as the last one.

Dom,
I am *trying* (yeah, very trying http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif to sort out some other meets at other social type places, hence the *ahem* 'other' website and yahoo group, which you know about. Suggestions welcome for other places.

Do agree that after the first couple of times Bentley is not the most stimulating of places, but hey, was thinking out loud.

Ronnie,
sounds like a cool idea. Blackgang Shine (spelling) is a top place for kiddies, plus lots of twisties on the way there and back (from what I remember about 14 years ago)

Dom, no what? no I'm not trying? me confused, but then it's late in the day http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

OK, so the list has not been that busy, but then I do have a full time job to do and do try and devote some time to planning stuff (hmm, sounds really familiar that quote http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Also, I've been on-site quite a lot, thus no internet access, plus I don't have a PC at home (shock! horror!) so can only do this stuff when in the office.

Not a real good excuse I know, but hey http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I'd certainly go to Bentley next year if it was the same or different.

Inviting other car clubs along would be good (Nissan, Lancer, RSOC, Lotus Carlton - of whome I have a contact etc...etc...).

SIDC involvement...well, as I'm not a member so I'm not really bothered.
Why am I not a member....I'm waiting for the September dealine (strange idea), possibley....maybe....if this bitching against social events ceases.

We havn't all got the time or money to thro' our everyday cars round a track every weekend.

If the SIDC decide to build on there track events and organise some sort of non-track activity in conjunction with the track event then it would be worth joining (many other clubs manage).

But at the mo' it seems like u don't have to be a member to enjoy the social side that Markus and a few of us others are trying so hard to arrange.

Have the SIDC got a events coordinator other then for Track Events ????

Keep on trying Markus, and keep me informed.

Question is this.

Is there anyone in the SIDC who is a resident of the Ilse Of Whight who can point us in the right direction of some fun http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

They have that f**K scary chair lift thing where it goes over a cliff and you can see the needles (i think)
