Hello

I have a house with a gas boiler downstairs. All upstairs and downstairs rooms have radiators. I have been round the house this weekend and turned them all on after most have been off all summer (turned one of the valves off, one is always left full open) to check they are all working. We usually dont have them all on upstairs as we dont use all the bedrooms.

All but two of the radiators have got hot. The ones that havent are in a downstairs loo and converted garage room. I have turned both valves full on and still nothing. They worked earlier this year before I turned them off. Anyone got any ideas of what to look for ? When I turn the valves on all the others I could hear water rushing in but on these two nothing. There seems to be no leaks on the pipework or in the walls.

Thanks alot

Dave

Try turning all the radiators off except one of the non working ones while the pump is running. Then try the next radiator. If there is an air lock this should shift it. The highest radiator in our system then needs the air bled from it.

Do the non working rads have thermostatic valves? I had one which stuck and needed freeing with pilers once the head had been removed.

Turn the pump off, then bleed the two rads that are affected.

If this doesn't wok, and they have thermostatic valves (TRV'S), on them suspect the TRV. Undo the head, (usually a single screw to loosen a collar, or a screw on/off collar), and identify the pin that actuates the valve. Work it free using long nosed pliers. Sometimes you have to undo a small nut that surrounds it to help free it. SOME dirty water will escape, so have cloths ready, but it's not too much, only half an egg cup full.

Hit them with a hammer, gently!

Et Viola!
I thank you, I thank you and I thank you!

After a couple of days with both valves full on, both rads are now getting lukewarm.

Gonna go out and get a rad key tomorrow and bleed them both.

Thanks for the help.

turn all rads off except the two that don't work ,if you have system with provision for water and heating working independantly ie: a time clock with hw/and ch control turn hw off then run boiler for about 30 mins should sort it out if not maybe signs of sludge build up .
