The theme for round 21 of the photo competition is 'Time'.

A nice open ended theme, there's the obvious and the not so obvious, so should be interesting to see what people come up with.

Discussion only in this thread! Entries here (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?p=5178360#post5178360) please

Rules (and please note that I WILL NOT be including images that break any of these within the voting thread):

1. No image will be greater than 800 pixels along its longest side.
2. Image overall will not exceed 120kb (defined as 122,880 bytes :) )
3. Image must have been taken within the competition period, which is from 14 November 2005 to 14 December 2005.
4. Each submitter can change their posted image at any time (using edit function) up to the closing date for submissions which is midnight on 16 December 2005
5. Maximum of three (3) images per submitter, per competition.
6. Digital manipulation is permitted in order to correct technical issues such as dust or noise on the image. Sharpening, levels, contrast and colour adjustments are allowed. It is not permitted to add or remove elements of the image or to apply digital 'effects'.
7. Image must be hosted so that it appears correctly in the competition thread and must remain so for the period of the competition including voting. Any images that do not appear correctly won't poll may votes, obviously.
8. Image must be titled but not on the image itself. I.e. some bold text naming the image should be posted at the same time as the image itself. In addition, any details of the image itself should also be posted (this is a learning exercise after all). E.g. EXIF data or maybe just aperture, shutter speed, equipment used.
9. There will be no posts in the competition thread other than those for the posting of competition images. All discussion should be held in other threads.
10. There are no judges, only votes from Scoobynet members, and it's their collective decision which is final.
11. Images will meet the requirements of the ScoobyNet T&Cs
12. Winner gets to choose the theme for the next round.
Best of Luck :)

I've just put my first attempt into a competition & tried to size them by the rules- but they still appear tiny by comparison to other entries! Can I make them bigger?

Yep, you've got little ones :)

Your first one is 373 x 253 pixels, but 102k. You probably need to make a bigger version (aiming at 800 x 600, but not more) but with a bit more compression to avoid going over 120k. How were you creating the version you posted ?

I used the 'resize' tool in Paint Shop Pro 9.

in PSP, resize to 800x600 sort of dimensions then Save As... and specify in [Options] compression of 12-14

should keep the size under 120K

Ah, so Kev is thinking 'Lunch' time :Suspiciou ;)

I think I need to put one of my daybreak shots in as I'm unlikely to get anything else in these short days :(

My lovely wife has just bought me my first proper camera and i thought that i would christen it by posting an entry in the latest competition. Constructive critisism is appreciated. Thanks

looking good rab, looks to me to be a very shallow depth of field with no focal point in particular tho.
