Shop won't sort it out, has to be done via mail.
Give them a call and they'll send you stuff to send it in.

To date, Nikon has received notification of five occurrences of defective batteries worldwide of which two have been in Europe. No cases of personal injury have been reported; however, the overheating has caused damage to adjacent material during the recharging process, and further use is not advised.

On receipt of your application you will be sent a pre-paid postal packet in which to return your battery. When we receive your battery it will be inspected, verified and a replacement battery will posted to the address declared during registration. Your Nikon EN-EL3 battery will be replaced free of charge with a new EN-EL3a or a new EN-EL3e battery within approximately 5-10 working days of receipt. The EN-EL3a and the EN-EL3e may be freely substituted for the EN-EL3 in all cases. Please note that in the case of high demand, returns may take longer.

Phew, 43AV! Certainly worth checking out, don't want a blown up D70! (Waits for jibes from Canonites ;) )

EL-EN4 thankfully! Had my fill of Nikon malfunctions this year (first year ever in 20+ years of shooting with Nikon gear but one year too many)...

Thanks for the heads-up on this, I have a colleague who may not be aware of the problem.

DE and ME's here thankfully. Didn't need mine to be affected as I might be at a gig next week and no camera.

So's mine but I'll be getting back a higher capacity model which can't be bad!

ah b***s. 4AAB.

So to do the recall you have to register.. fine, but mine's a singapore camera, albeit with a worldwide warranty. Can't register the serial with the europe site. So I'm going to be posting it to se asia? Time for a call to tech support I guess.
