View Full Version : Rally New York aiming for WRC status michael_jenkins 08 November 2005, 15:19 http://rally.racing-live.com/en/index.html?http://rally.racing-live.com/en/headlines/news/detail/051107210728.shtml sonny79 08 November 2005, 19:27 Sounds a great. How awesome would a super special be around central park?? SirFozzalot 09 November 2005, 12:15  jenna 09 November 2005, 13:21 wouldnt hold your breath over a superspecial in central park, but a New York event (remembering that the FIA refers to swansea as being 'nr london!) is fairly well a definate as the team that saction the event have already view the site and checked out the organisers... expect it for the 2008-9 season! The only 'glitch' is the americans distrust of the fia and european organisation after the fiasco that was the American GP (FIA)!!.. its a probability the event will run on american terms and not the current european, so expect more raz'a mataz and that 'that' which the americans love. Nicci 09 November 2005, 15:57 its a probability the event will run on american terms and not the current european, so expect more raz'a mataz and that 'that' which the americans love. So we can expect to see the guys on an oval circuit then....lol rallymad_homer 09 November 2005, 17:17 Jenna - I was marshalling at the pilot event for "Rally Ireland" and was wondering if you had an news on that becoming a round of the WRC in 2007 Cheers RMH jenna 09 November 2005, 17:40 There is nothing reported in any of the recent FIA press material. Reading between the lines it looks like a very slim line wrc for 2006 in number of teams, and backing but 2007 however should be a very interesting season, this is when all the new rules, time table and events will really show. You just never know with mad max behind the corporate wheel of the fia. Jenna ddb85 10 November 2005, 22:59 personally i think they should hold a tarmac rally in switzerland, i went to the rally du valais end of last month and it was fantastic, scenery was immense and the event itself was very good sonny79 12 November 2005, 12:36 They do need a fair mix of gravel and tarmac rallies there`s only 3 all season (not counting the Monte) jenna 12 November 2005, 16:28 why do you not count monte? bonkers 12 November 2005, 17:51 wouldnt hold your breath over a superspecial in central park, but a New York event (remembering that the FIA refers to swansea as being 'nr london!) is fairly well a definate as the team that saction the event have already view the site and checked out the organisers... expect it for the 2008-9 season! Actually, the main 'glitch' is that rally has a low profile here in the US and no title sponsor. :( Besides, the West Coast is a much better place for rallying (http://www.prorallypix.com/2005.html)! (Not that I'm biased at all ;)) So we can expect to see the guys on an oval circuit then....lol Wash your mouth out with soap and water!!! The U.S. rally comunity may be small but it is proud of the fact that its drivers know how to turn left and right! jenna 12 November 2005, 18:41 word is a sponsor has been found, John Shirley (Rally Promotions, LLC) who you may know from the ESRC Series has made more than one hint to this, plus there has been plenty of gossip here of red bull (already having strong links with RNY,Ltd) being very interested to take the lead sponsors role. Having met Christian Horner I could imagine his participation (a Dave Richards in the making) Probable sites for the event are looking like Narowsberg and liberty. The current rally series does seam a bit tame compared to other motorsport formula's and that’s the problem.. its just not 'glamorous' enough to capture the mass American event goers.. im no fan of Roundy Roundy in any way but sponsors are very much interested in getting as big an audience as possible for their sponsor $, if new deals over media coverage, spin off sales and all the other marketing tricks can be worked into the current events before the WRC hits town then im sure it would be more economically viable, however this may very well kill off what is the very essence of rally... look at F1!! were business is now the order over sport, eg the after you Michael policy of Ferrari. bonkers 12 November 2005, 23:13 Jenna, I think you just spoke my mind. Well, apart from the 'tame' bit - hurtling down unpaved roads at 100+mph is hardly "tame". The way it's packaged and sold on the other hand... So Red Bull got a taste for the sport after sponsoring Travis this year huh? Even after he rolled it. That would be good news if they decided to sponsor the sport in a big way - TVR's all round!!! :thumb: Now if only Stig would come back again next year... sonny79 13 November 2005, 16:39 Monte`s a weird event i suppose it is a tarmac event just not a pure tarmac rally. I`d like to see san remo back as a tarmac round the single reason being that there`s to many rounds that are simular dry dusty gravel rounds around the med? |
