View Full Version : took some pics last night of mates car
rb5 286 08 November 2005, 11:20 was basically messing around with settings, getting used to results they perform.
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?p=5161454#post5161454
all i have done is scaled down size and cropped a few, added a border.
i took all these with my S7000 fuji, with a tripod, on the aperture priority setting. i adjusted the f values and also the white balance.
tried different settings on the same picture. results are amazingly different.
i am a novice and getting used to the capabilites.
would really appreciate your comments, good or bad.
cheers
Hoppy 08 November 2005, 12:38 Nice pics :) It's easy to experiment with digital, see what you're getting, and try some more. Cool
You're getting some long exposures there, which made me think. Does your camera have a B for Bulb setting? It keeps the shutter open for as long as you like. Go somewhere really dark and do some light painting with a torch, and use a separate flash gun and move around the car firing the flash several times. Fire it under the car and give it some fake neons ;) Put some coloured sweet wrappers over the flash for wierd stuff.
I must also point out that the parking is pi55 poor, oil temp getting a bit high, but it is nice to see reserved parking spaces for Welsh people (no 5) :D
Richard.
BOB'5 08 November 2005, 13:11 Excellent pics mate. Gave me inspiration to begin to learn aperture settings on my point and shoot Casio Exilim.
Just got to figure out what adjusting the shuterspeed does now.

scoobypreza 08 November 2005, 13:47 very nice

Diablo 08 November 2005, 14:21 Hi mate,
some nice pics in there - well composed, if a little underexposed in some cases.
Does your camera have adjustable white balance to compansate for the artificial light?
2 mins in photoshop as a (far from perfect) example:-

rb5 286 08 November 2005, 14:35 diablo: yes there are a load of settings for the white balance, little icons such as sun appearing behind clouds, stip light with 1 / 2 / 3, lightbulb, and some custom ones i can setup and save.
there is also a setting (ev) that i can adjust + or - although i never messed with that. (i'm guessing this is the exposure value)

Probably exposure compensation - allows you to adjust the exposure by less than one F stop either way for a given camera metered setting.
For example, if the camera decides in the scene above that f5.6 @ 1/60 is correct, you may want to shift the exposure by a small amount either way if the resulting image is a little under or over exposed at the base settings.
rb5 286 08 November 2005, 16:19 not sure what speed the shutter was on these as i had aperture priority.
i think i may have to mess around with ev settings. i took 6 pics of each shot with different settings a lot of the time f4 seemed to be too dark where as f6 and over was too bright (over exposed i guess)
i took 110 pics and 75% of them were out of focus, too dark or too bright but it was all good practice ATEOTD
i tried a few shots with the shutter priority and the results seemed very much similar to the aperature shots.
got plenty more practice to go and keep those comments/advice coming.
u guys r :thumb:
TonyFlow 08 November 2005, 16:52 TBH, I prefer the "artificial" look of the 1st one without "white balance"
Neanderthal 08 November 2005, 17:12 Very nice :D

I had a S7000, it does have bulb, but only for 30 seconds.
Still enough time to do some interesting stuff though. Minimum aperture was only f8 tho, so any longer than 30 seconds unless it was really dark would probably blow it all out!
