Anyone interested in the Scooby exclusive airfield trackday at Abingdon (Nr. Oxford) on 24th July 2000 needs to book fairly quickly on the following

I've just been quoted £120 by my insurance company for the day! That's with a £1500 excess, which applies for the whole day, including the journey home.

Is this the sort of money people normally pay??

Ask for Nick Kershaw 0115 941 5255 think its £55 .I read this and wrote down the number from a previous thread.

Being a track virgin, will there be an instructor about, or is it (for want of a better word) a free for all??

Also, are there tarmac run off's or are they gravel traps??

Just being careful, after all it might be my first time!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Apparently there will be an ARDS qualified instructor there. Have a look at cdunleavey's post in the Events (Temp while being moved) section.

Its also my first time out on the track with my scooby and I have been assured that this is an ideal venue. Being an airfield rather than a track I think the run-off areas are grass rather than tarmac or gravel.

I attended my first airfield/track day at this venue and had the same concerns. However these were soon overcome and the lack of barriers/obstacles helps build confidence in no time.

The tarmac track is very wide and the grassy runoff areas extend everywhere the tarmac does'nt.

Jo Peters, Bob Iles and myself were there recently and I'm sure these guys will tell you the same.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers

It was our first trackday and we looked into insurance but in the end decided not to bother. With this venue at Easytrack it is not compulsory. Helmets are compulsory though.

The surface is good tarmac, the run-offs are large grassed areas - no gravel and we were quoted £55 for the insurance for a value of up to something like £7000 then £10 per £1000 thereafter. The excess was £750 and they didn't cover the engine or running gear!!!! (this was with the company quoted above ) So, we figured it wasn't worth paying the premium.

It's entirely up to you really - do you trust your own driving???

Anyway, whatever you decide, you will have a real blast http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif! Just remember, it can be tough on your tyres and brakes.

Are we supposed to have sent payment off by now or are we still waiting to confirm the numbers?

Thanks

Don't worry about payment for the moment. We need to establish final numbers first to see exactly what the cost will be. We'll let you all know when we know - your spaces are safe.

Note to everyone: There are still 9 spaces left to be filled. Please put your name down on the easytrack board to reserve a place. Ignore the reserved spaces - these are for us to use - see the first posting on how to change these reserved spaces and put your name in.

It really is an ideal first track venue and event.

hi all,

just to try and answer a few of the questions that have cropped up :-

ARDS Instructors will be available on the day for 1 session free of charge. additional sessions available on request.

Regarding insurance - speak to Nik Kershaw at CCI 0115 941 5255 and ask for the Easytrack policy which is as above but £50 for the first £6000 and then £9 for subsequent £1000. engine & transmission can be covered for an extra 10%

Regarding payment - we'll be sending out an email to all those who have registered as provisional in the next week or two. We NEED more people before the event can go ahead. It would be a great shame to cancel having come this far so tell your friends / dealers / neighbours etc... I was even chatting to some scooby-dude I met at my local KFC tonight about it :o)

Jo and other 1st timers,

did you change anything on your cars for the event you did last time, ie brake pads, tyres?

Do they have a tyre person there to either replace your road tyres or put legal new tyres on if you wear your road ones out!

OK, I'm signed up. Only one more place left by the looks of it so anyone else will have to be quick!

Stef - are your mates from Northampton Tyres coming?

Can I rent a helmet for the day when I get there? Or is it better to go and buy one?

Also, isn't this date a Monday? Probably explains why there aren't so many takers I guess...

btw Barclays (underwritten by Privilege) are insuring me with full cover for only £100 excess on the track day - for free! Privilege I love you... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

If you have any spare places, I could get four or 5 integrales along for a bit of a laugh?

Mine's got 'a bit' of extra power so it might be an interesting comparison...
(apologies for repeating this from the 'events' thread, only it is a bit quiet over there

Richard.
The guys that arrange these days actually run a tyre company, so it's unlikely!

Grale???
Perhaps if we don't get the numbers???
Put your name down for some others anyway. Don't see many Integrales on track.

Stef.
PS There are still 13 places left according to the list.

Hi Guys

Scott. How come you've sent your cheque off? The price hasn't yet been confirmed??? Have you put your name down for another date instead??? Also, as of today there's still 13 spaces left.

Greg H. - as first timers last time, we drove there on a cheap set of tyres and actually lasted the whole day on them, we'll even get the next trackday out of them before we move to slicks (maybe) for the Scooby Day (we're there on the 7th July as well. We didn't change anything else but it was quite a shock when the brakes faded so quickly. We did get them back by the end of the day but this time we're on grooved discs with mintex 1155's (a cheaper option than 4 pot AP's)and we'll know what to expect this time also.

As for spare tyres, there will be a tyrefitter arriving in the afternoon and you can Jonny or Marcus on the number on the post above to order your tyres in advance ready for fitting before you go home if you wish.

Grale gav - if we don't get the numbers we need, we may have to open it up to other makes. I understand that Colin will be speaking to Easytrack tomorrow about this so we should know more in the next day or two.

So ...... if you know someone with an Impreza who has not yet got their name down, get them to do so now!

I think Stef may be able to give advice on what to expect for your first trackday as he is probably the most experienced out of the lot of us (Stef - love the article in REVS http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif )

You must have a helmet for this venue and they can be borrowed/reserved in advance. You will need to contact Jonny or Marcus of Easytrack before you go so that you get one reserved.

You are right about the day - it is a Monday so you'll have to book a day's holiday from work (or take a sicky!) Can't think of a better way to spend a Monday!!!

Andy Tang - I don't see your name there, have you changed your mind?

Windleman,

Nice name, are you from Windlesham??? (I was born there).

You don't need to send your cheque yet - we will let all of you know when we know. Just as long as you've reserved your space on the Easytrack board you'll be OK.
