My vacuum cleaner has just died. It was a Dyson, don't fancy another. Any suggestions on good alternatives?

Jen msi 16 September 2005, 23:40 Henry is your friend mcvicar 16 September 2005, 23:52 Hi, Have you checked it out. My missus had trouble with her dyson. was working ok then just died. After a little look it turned out to just be the switch at fault. £4.99 and still going strong. Jen_M 17 September 2005, 08:25 It died of old age, definitely a gonner. Steely Glint 17 September 2005, 10:10 Given any thought to a Aquavac? There are some pretty good machines out there on the market. Jen_M 17 September 2005, 13:43 Just been over to my local curry's, I fancy one of the Bissel lift off ones. £179 in the shop £147 on the web. Anyone got one. StickyMicky 17 September 2005, 16:16 as above with "henry" numatic hoovers get a thumbs up from me they might not all have the fancy crap you get with todays hoovers but there built like tanks :D my "george" wetvac has been in use for just under a full year now, its used every single day and sumtimes its used for about 8 hours solid most days. built to last, its had a few "minor" repairs, a wire came off a switch etc etc easy fix, the motor still sucks like a crack whore  rich101 22 September 2005, 23:11 Henry is indeed the man for the job and at £78 from www.comet.co.uk with in-store pickup as well you would be barking not too.... These things run for years our first one was in '95 and still going strong, change the bag regular and knock the dust out of the filter and off it goes again. However if it is mostly pile carpet then probably the panasonic or similar rich as above with "henry" numatic hoovers get a thumbs up from me they might not all have the fancy crap you get with todays hoovers but there built like tanks :D my "george" wetvac has been in use for just under a full year now, its used every single day and sumtimes its used for about 8 hours solid most days. built to last, its had a few "minor" repairs, a wire came off a switch etc etc easy fix, the motor still sucks like a crack whore  v8voodoo 22 September 2005, 23:52 Another vote for the hard as nails "Henry". My Henry is the Super one that has extra filtration too. Bought him when I was renovating my house a few years ago, he ate all sorts of rubble and crap and dealt with it happily. Dropped him down the stairs and all that happened was his hat fell off. Put it back on and he was off vacuuming again like a shot. Bags cost peanuts from anywhere and I can do my entire downstairs without even unplugging him from a central socket cos the lead is waaaaay long. He's always smiling and now he's part of the family.... He's red, he's round, he sucks stuff off the ground.... HENRY ROCKS..... washer 24 September 2005, 23:56 is it a dc01 or dc04, if it is prob the cable were it enters the handle broken  Scoobychick 25 September 2005, 10:51 Another vote for the hard as nails "Henry". PMSL :D We've just bought another Henry as we're renovating our house and the other modern vacuum just couldn't cope with it. Henry's do indeed rock! Dr Hu 25 September 2005, 17:12 is it a dc01 or dc04, if it is prob the cable were it enters the handle broken Yep - can second that - had to fix our DC01 a few weeks ago for this - just cut about 2 inches off the cable and refitted it to the switch - took about 10 mins to fix. BOB.T 27 September 2005, 16:47 Entire downstairs, pah! I can do the whole house with our Henry! Actually there is one downside to Henry, he sucks that much it's hard to push the bloody thing along! MartinM 27 September 2005, 16:59 Sebo - from John Lewis washer 30 September 2005, 00:04 a henry all the home use them 100quid Scooby-Doo 30 September 2005, 07:08 Sebo - from John Lewis Agree.
