I am off hill walking in the Lake District again soon. The last couple of times i have been i have had the constant hassle of taking off my ruck sack to get my SLR camera out for every picture or having my hands full when scrambling over the difficult bits (Dog lead in the other hand with an excited dog "guiding me" ) i have a seperate soft case for the camera which goes over the shoulder but doesnt work with a ruck sack has anybody got any suggestions or solutions for a differnet type of case?
Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe something like a LowePro Toploader on a chest harness ? Or maybe a belt pack of some sort (can't remember the name but LowePro do these as well) ?
Cheers

I've got a TopLoader (http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Toploading/allWeather/Toploader_75_AW.aspx) - sounds perfect - Check out photo 5 on the link.

Crumpler do some very nice dedicated camera bags - be warned their website (http://www.crumpler.co.uk/2.0/site.html) is a little, well.. odd :)

Chris thanks for that link.
Thanks for the warning, what a horrible web site! Surprised if they sell much from there you need the patience of a saint to work your way through it.
Had a look round a shop "camera world” this afternoon and now have to have another think about best solution.

Have a look at Zing (http://www.tiffen.com/products.html?tablename=zing) pouches as they may be what you want - they are neoprene so will stand some "knocks" and keep out a fair bit of weather. Just make sure you get the best fit for your camera / lens combo as having one that is too tight / gapes doesn't give you the proper protection ;)

I've got a Lowepro toploader for my D70.
Unfortunately, it "sprang" out of a packed Scoob boot, straight onto the floor last July, only falling about 18", but shattering the sky filter I had on the lens, and bending the threads so I couldn't get the old filter off.:(:(:(
Repaired now, but I wasn't impressed with the level of protection offered:(
