Ok people, my head's battered and I need help!

Here's the deal, whilst stood at a merchandise stall in the rain, the wind got up and flapped the stall around tipping gallons of water over me and my 300D  Since then the camera will only work in the auto, pre selected modes, P, Tv, Av and M won't work at all, nuffin.

I've spoken to my insurance co. who are sending a claim form out but this is where the dilemas start, what do I want from them? :Suspiciou They want 2 quotes for renewing my camera, I've had a look and they don't appear to be available as new, I suspected this so mentioned it to the insurnace co. and she said to price the newer model, 350D. That's all well and good but I have the battery grip and spare batteries for my 300D and they're different to the 350D

I could get mine repaired for 190 quid but I don't really want that, I can just see it leading to other problems. That's a standard repair price form Canon, regardless of the fault...ie they can post you a new camera out and still make a profit even though it's a good couple of hundred quid less than you'd pay in a shop!

So, what are the chances of me getting a new 300D, should I take this chance to upgrade to a 350D, should I try and blag a battery grip out of them too and where's the most expensive place to get quotes from ;)

Oh, I'll have a 60 quid excess to pay and it'll effect my NCB but I realised that anyway :)

All advice welcomed

PS, pants pics from Germany to follow :D

PPS, what makes this all the more gutting is that this was my first real chance to use the new 70-200

Get quotes from Jessops and jacobs as they seem to be the most expencive places, get a new 350D with the insurance money and then send your 300D off to Canon your self and have it repaired. Most insurance companies wont ask for the old camera back, one its repaired sell it along with the grip and batteries on Ebay and buy the grip and spair batteries for the 350D......jobs a good un

Surely all you accessories are insured too - and are tied in with the camera?

The insurance should replace new for old - the entire package......

I would fight for this, as this is what you pay (high) insurance for.

Thanks :)

I'll keep you in mind Sizer :)

The lady on the phone did say summat about replacing with a newer model so I guess that should mean putting me back to an equal position, fingers crossed eh?! The annoying thing is people take the piss with claims everyday, I'd never do that and this is a 100% genuine claim yet I'm waiting for it to go right up mi arse!

I've got the claim form here now, one of the first things it says is 'you may be asked to provide photographic evidence of....' :D

Bob - I'm with Dan on this. I guess it depends on the wording of your insurance, but you should be able to replace new for old, including the accessories. I checked my insurance after Sal told me what happened to your camera and they will cover everything (providing the total doesn't exceed £1500). I have seen a few places still selling 300's, but I'd take this as a good opportunity to get the 350d - you won't be disappointed. If not Attu's idea sounds good :)
