Having a major problem at home at the mo that's getting on my t*ts!!

I've had a water leak since 2nd June this year and after being let down on various occasions, work still hasn't started on the repair (due to insurance company & waste of space builders).

The original company who were appointed came a made a hole in my ceiling (concrete ceiling) looking for a water pipe that's leaking. Realising they had underestimated for the job (you should go in from the top with a concrete ceiling) they left me with a gaping hole in the kitchen and that's it!

This was fine for a few days and then I started to notice fleas or small flies constantly around. This got out of hand last weekend when I woke up to find the kitchen and bathroom covered in these little b*rstards! I have been killing them like its going out of fashion, with flyspray, the shower (they are in the bath) and yet they are still all around.

Can the problem stem from the hole in the kitchen ceiling? I have heard these small flies sometimes live in the brickwork.

I also have a partially blocked toilet, its enough to do that I need to do (1's and 2's!!!) but fills quite high when flushed and then settles. Could there be a blocked *cough* log *cough* somewhere that is attracting these flies.

The problem is the kitchen and bathroom. Sorry for the long post but can anyone help?

Thanks in advance
Ian

The problem with the thunderbox might be further downstream...I had exactly the same problem, but the waste was running through the cracks in the cellar walls...it was like a scat fan's version of the Amytiville Horror

I cut a 1m square hole in my printed concrete drive to inspect the joint at the base of the soil stack, dug down to the joint, and nothing :( as I sat in the hole wondering what my next move was, I spied an inspection hatch further down the drive that I had never noticed before..I lifted it and found it was full to the brim with ****e!

One set of drain rods, several vomiting sessions and an enourmous belch from the drains, and the problem had gone :D...all bar a big fcukoff hole in my drive

Is there an air inlet valve fitted to the top of your soil pipe that the bog goes into?...if so take it off in the meantime, as this will help the stack vent a bit quicker if there is a blockage further downstream.

Dunno about the flies though....:o

Speaking as an expert on jungle warfare I would suggest that they are Tetse Tetse flies and could give you Denge Fever from a single bite.

I suggest evacuating your family to safer ground, the W.H.O should be able to help with the infestation and give Sir Bob Geldof a call. He may buy you some new cattle and a plough

There is also the possibility there are a rouge pair of alan whickers loose about the house...try leaving a raw makerel on the radiator for a few days to try and identify the source of the outbreak, and distract the flies.

Then take the Knickers out with a flash-bang and incinerate them on the BBQ, its the only way to be sure :thumb:

If only "dyno-rod hull and emu" were alive today, they would sort out the blockage and the emu would eat all the flies :)

Did he fall or was he pushed ?

He was using Aeriel for the problem though, risky choice of product.

Have you lived in the house long? Now i'm only guessing here, but i reckon at some time in the past someone has tryed to dispose of a body in your house, probably mutilating the corpse, and disembowling to drain all the fluids, (hence the blocked sewer pipe, the fat and internal organs blocking the pipe because they have'nt decomposed yet) then concealed the remains in your concrete ceiling, and now the builders, having disturbed the ceiling have exposed the body to the air, thus attracting the huge amount of flys you're now witnessing, although not a solution to your problem, i hope this can now put your mind to rest, as to what could be the cause of the sudden outbreak of flys.:)

To get rid of fleas you can get a spray from the vets that you spray all over your carpets and furniture, this kills all fleas and other insects such as spiders, flies and woodlice etc. This will also kill them for up to 6 months as soon as an insect hits your carpet thats it. Tidy your house and get as much off the floor as possible, spray the whole house including the hole, **** off down to the pub for and hour and when you come back problem solved. Just do it again in six months! not that we've ever had fleas. It was just the dog!

Thanks for the advice people. I got the drain dug up and there was 3 dead dogs, a dead cat, 6 pigeons and a human torso blocking the pipes. Have got all them sorted (now in binliners in the attic) and everythings on the up and up!!

Cheers
Ian
