Wow,

For those that have seen this awesome beast, with the new Impreza just around the corner, it seems that Subaru have their work cut out for them.

Twin turbo 2.5l engine puts it into Skyline territory. I have to say, it is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. Very agressive and it looks set to take the Jap High Tech Car into the next level.

Awesome...

Looking for a picture for it now...
Mazda 626 MPS, here I come!

There's more info on this in Autocar this week. I think it was something like 2.something litre turbo developing 300BHP. Permanent 4WD, and various gizmos.

Does the concept car (on this thread) look like it has BMW M3 mirrors to you?

The Subaru design team migrated then.
That explains the cutting edge looks of the new [Un]Impreza then.
Think I'll put mine up for sale now ...

The Subaru designer may have migrated but they didn't have to replace them with the ones who designed the Chrysler Neon!!

It's in the latest Car magazine. 2.5 V6 twin turbo 280 bhp. 18" wheels running 225 (or was it 235?).

Very sexy. Thing is, I'm starting to question how relevant all these cars are. You have to go mad to get real enjoyment out of them...

You can get a lot of enjoyment on country lanes (and the track) without going totally nuts.

Richard F, I agree with you about the relevance of cars like this nowadays,

1: drink petrol
2: theft magnets
3: police magnets
4: ridiculous insurance
5: No enjoyment unless you drive them very fast constantly.

Also, is it just me who thinks it looks like a Vectra GSi with a new bodykit and bigger wheels?????

Guys,

There is ALWAYS a time and a place for cars like these, it is my raison d'etre, after all.

You can always buy a Volvo

SWOLL, Richard F

They might have their failings but you must admit that driving around in a Scooby is a lot more enjoyable than a Mondeo or a 'normal' car.

They might have all the failings you list, but they do have virtues that (well in most owners minds) will more than outweigh the problems.

I get a lot of enjoyment driving my car and this is not just when I am driving fast.

I like to know that I have the power to overtake safely, get out of trouble that a normal 2 wheel drive car may not be able to, plus it handles (even at normal speeds) so well that I often have a smile on my face.

Insurance is a real pain, as are thieves, but I have been lucky in that I have no points yet (touch wood), and have had no theft problems. Petrol is expensive but all this is worth the extra enjoyment that I get over driving other 'normal' cars that I have been in before.

Hey, it's only IMHO...

No ta Blow Dog,

I was thinking more of a golf TDi for the week and a westfield megabusa for the weekends, I'm not giving up on cars altogether mate.

AWD,

I agree with you on most of your points mate.

I still think that a westfield/caterham will be even more fun and less aggrevation though.

SWOLL

You have a good point there about the Westfield/Caterham option. Did you see the article on Supercar vs Superbike in Evo?

The only thing to beat the R1 bike was a Caterham beast!

Ford copy or not I'm sure it will be well built like all Mazdas that I've been in. if it's a bad engine that has been turbod it won't get good reviews. Time will tell.

Looks the business, we'll just have to wait and see if it is a sheep in wolf's clothing or the genuine firebreather that it promises to be.

Now THAT'S more like it. If the new Impreza had looked more like that queues would be forming outside dealers doors right now. I noticed in Car that this was built in 26 days - I wonder if that was in response to the reception that the new Scooby got?

Raymond.

Don't get me wrong - I love my type R. I'm just starting to think that it's a bit too mad. Maybe an Elise or similar would be more fun with less risk to my licence.

I would never want to drive about in a Mundano but on the other hand, with all this petrol shortage business, I've been buzzing about in my girlfriend's Escort and frankly I have as much fun in that because it's more about choosing a good line through bends to keep the speed up and you have to think about overtaking much more carefully.

Also, it doesn't take as much to get it to it's limit whereas in the Scoob it's my limit being tested not the car's.

I actually wrote to Mazda a while back about that car. They orignally did a version using the smaller 323 but switched to the 626 since it was due for a redesign anyways. They said they were taking it to the autoshows to see what the reactions were. Hopefully they will still build this car. If its like the 323 Concept then it will be definately a WRX and Evo competitor since at the time of the orignal concept car they said that was the intent of building it. They wanted part of the turbo AWD market that Mitsu and Subaru have.

Don't you agree, though, that it looks more like a touring car than a rally car?

ie. Built for track, not for country roads. I am happy either way to be honest, we all seem to be making our cars more suitable for the track anyway.

I been thinking about it all week, but damn...600 quid? Hmm...

I washed my car Sunday again, keep finding these tiny scratches. Youre right, it is those countryside excursions.

Question

Will it handle?

Not all 4x4 turbos are a rewarding drive, time will tell I suppose

Looks very Lancer to me

Looks the Dogs B***ocks though!!!!
