A few photos from my trip to Switzerland in the last couple of weeks. Was quite pleased with how some of them turned out. Enjoy :)

Nice work Iain. Lemme guess - Mont Blanc, Jungfrau, and the Valais?

Thanks folks

Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch :)

Didn't get time to get down the Mont Blanc or the Valais. Almost all of those are taken from around Grindlewald / First / Murren etc.

Argh, I should have recognised the Eiger seeing as I spotted Jungfrau. Awesome locations!

Fantastic pics.:)

How about posting up some exif data so us less capable photographers can get some good ideas :)

Cheers

Congrats, very nice pictures. I should really go to that place more often. How was your trip overhere? Have you had the chances to drive over some passes?

Great pics, Ian :)

You need to give us all a tutorial on your panorama and stitching techniques ;)

Woudn't mind knowing what shutter speed you used for the stream shot , I read in this month's Digital Photo thats it's best to use a small aperture (f22 )which slows the shutter speed down to about half a second (in AV mode )

That sounds about right. You do need a tripod (or this case a handy rock) to keep the camera steady though.

Great trip thanks :D

Was a bit rainy the second week, so visited some chateaux / schlosses (not much point in doing mountain passes when you can't see anything). We stayed on a camp site in Widerswill (just outside Interlaken), and there was so much to do within a 30 or so mile radius, that we never really used the car much.

Going to try and get back there again next Summer, and might take the mountain bike next time :D Will try and do some of the passes as well ;)

You need to give us all a tutorial on your panorama and stitching techniques ;)

Set up tripod so it is level
Put camera on top
Set camera to manual mode to ensure same exposure settings etc are used for each photo
Take photos in RAW, ensuring there is a small overlap between each photo (large overlaps tend to cause problems)
Fire up Photoshop CS2, and tweak the settings of each photo so that the colours match as closely as possible.
In CS2 use the photostich feature to join them together, and select advanced blending
Once image is created, use the heal tool to fix any slight mismatches / blemishes.
I do tend to find that smaller numbers of photos tend to work better than large numbers, (i.e. smaller panoramas). Also you need to be aware that loading and stitching together a number of RAW images can be a lengthy and memory consuming process (I use a laptop with 1Gb memory).

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for those tips Iain, particularly helpful is 4, I have always allowed a large overlap, will try smaller ones next time :)

Very nice pics Iain!

Id like to get to that side later in September, can you reccomend any decent areas with hotels.

Paul :)

We went by caravan so not sure about hotels, but there seems to be a lot of nice looking ones in Grindlewald / Murren
