Just trawling around like you do. I really have a hankering for another Capri, but the wife says she will leave me if I buy one

I want another one too but I can't get past the fact they're grossly overpriced now.

My expenditure on Capris in the past:

1973 1.6XL facelift Mk 1 bought in 1988 £250 near mint
1977 1.6GL Mark 2 Series 3 bought in 1989 £300 mint
1974 1.6GL Mark 2 bought in 1989 £100 a bit tatty
1974 3.0Ghia bought in 1997 £100 tatty
1981 3.0S bought in 1998 £175 very good cond.
1981 2.0S bought in 2000 £800 absolutely mint

All gone now

But now any of those would be high hundreds and a good one (2.8, 280, 3.0S) would be well over a grand and pushing multiple grands for mint.

I've had three capri's in the distant past mate. A 3.0gtxlr (1970), a 3.0 gt (1974), a 3.0gxl (1974)and a1600gt (1976) (I was only 18 when I had that one!!) Also had a mark one rs 2000 102bhp from a 2.0l, it's laughable today. Still I enjoyed every minute of them. Get one bought mate!!

I have an upto date Capri club mag here for this month prices are as follows hold onto your seat cause you are gonna fall of it...

Mint 280 brooklands £5500
clean 2.8i special with T&T, history £3500
but this takes the biscuit
Black 2.0 Laser t&T, history 2 owners £2300

a few years ago you couldn't give away a Laser

But there is hope Buy the Capri missus wouldn't really leave you
you'll never get bored of a capri

keep an eye on Ebay i bought a 1985 2.0 Laser off there recently (last month) for 351 pounds
Taxed Mot'd and with a genuine 82K on the clock backed up with full ford history and every reciept for any work carried out and that was always by a ford main dealer body is a bit crappy but thats nothing i can't solve in a weekend and a pair of repro wings 60 quid each.
and it was one owner from new

Christ the Laser was the boggo end of the range. Those prices are shocking, I could have had a Tickford Turbo for £2500 when I bought my MR2 in 2001. I so wish I'd been brave enough but I kept thinking, "Who the hell is going to want to fix it if it goes wrong and I don't know what it is."

I dont think those prices are shocking. They just reflect what is now an iconic classic. We find them shocking because we remember how much we payed for the cars we had as kids.
I was a 2.0 ghia and X pack 3.0S man myself. My bad boy had hoooge archs and janspeed heads. Wish I had thaat car now, it would be worth a mint.

I would love a 3.0S as a track car, can you imagine the fun?

I can remember getting massively sideways outside New York New York nightclub in Southampton whilst in my 3.0S. One of the lads in the back screamed and tore the headlining down in a bid to grab hold of something.

Oh how we laughed.

One of my fondest memories as a teenager was being taken for a spin in a nice MK3 silver 3.0s complete with Recaro fishnets, felt bloody fast too - would love one as a fun car!, as well as the droop snoot RS2000.

Easily tunable to 160bhp and in that shell, damn quick on accelartion

You think that's bad? Check AutoTrader now.... There's one for just shy of £20K. If they reduced it to £15K they would have people queuing up

If in very good condition, no rust, sub £60K you can sell for an easy £10K

My first car was a 1970 1.1 deluxe mk1 escort. I paid about £600 in 1998 for it. The chap I bought it off had the number plate up for sale, but hadn't had any interest, about a week after I bought it I got a phone call from the company selling it saying they had a buyer, so I sold the reg for £400! Thank you very much.

It was dog slow only being 1.1, but I absolutely loved it. I remember one morning, on my way to work, traffic had stopped in front of me, so I started to brake, then to my horror, the brakes more or less completely packed in. I had to mount the pavement in order to stop myself planting my beloved Escort into the back end of a Volvo!

I just sold my Mk2 Escort that was giving me grief (needed a few bits and bobs doing that I couldnt manage myself)

Now back in the market for another RWD classic Ford, probably a Mk1 Escort but my options are open.

Have been trying to find the website that was posted in a thread similar to this that was a dealer selling various Mk2 RS2000's? Anyone know it? Could have been the Sean Lockyear one but not sure.

Cheers, Greg.

The Mexico makes me laugh. Someone I knew bought one years ago. It blew up hours after he bought it. Oil was ok, mechanic checked it and it's was said to be ok but evidently you need full engine checks to really know.

What was funny was the security. There was a group of us there after he bought it back and ALL of us could open the car with at least one key we had. my front door key worked!!

Here's Olly's old girl. Should be dusting the cobwebs off soon ready for MOT and tax on 1st April ready for some summer fun this year.

It's in the garage at the minute, looking a bit dusty, 3 soft tyres and covered in dirty cat paw prints.

I haven't driven it in almost 2 years, since I parked it up after the last MOT. Didn't even bother taking it last year. But underneath the dust it is as new, and needs nothing. So it should be after a 7 year restoration.

So its coming out to play this year....
